Job Description

Candidate must possess a Master of Science degree in Education with a minimum of five years teaching experience. Candidate must possess a valid New York State teaching certificate in Elementary Education (B-6) and/or Secondary Certified 7-12. Candidate must demonstrate evidence of effective use of assessment data, including collection, analysis and reporting of results. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, facilitation, communication, organization, collaboration and decision-making skills. Candidates must possess fingerprint clearance from the New York State Education Department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Job Responsibilities and Roles:
Model high-quality, standards-aligned instruction aligned to the district's vision on a consistent basis. Co-plan and co-teach lessons with classroom teachers to strengthen instructional design and enactment. Implement structured coaching cycles that include goal-setting, planning, rehearsal, classroom enactment, reflection, and next steps. Facilitate and strengthen collaborative teacher learning structures focused on: Deepening content knowledge Analyzing student work Reviewing classroom videos Conducting lesson studies Examining the rigor and cognitive demand of instructional tasks Strengthen teachers' ability to design and enact rigorous, equitable instruction through shared practice and rehearsal. Instructional Practice and Learning Support teachers in planning cognitively demanding lessons and maintaining rigor during instruction. Help teams translate curriculum and standards into strong daily instructional practice aligned to the district's vision. Actively seek out research and resources to strengthen their understanding of best practices; work with others and continually reflect on practices and feedback received to help grow their skills. Utilize adult learning theory and evidence-based coaching strategies to support professional growth. Maintain documentation of coaching cycles, goals, and progress in accordance with program expectations. Partnership and Systems Alignment Partner with school leadership to identify instructional bottlenecks. Collaborate with school leadership on how to balance time effectively, referencing coaching logs and documentation. Contribute to strengthening collaborative team and coaching structures within the school to ensure coherence across grade levels and departments. Develop and maintain a clear coaching schedule aligned to school and district priorities. Participate in district-level professional learning and calibration to ensure consistency of practice across schools. Role Clarification To protect the integrity of the coaching role, the Instructional Coach does not: Serve as an evaluator of teachers Assume primary responsibility for discipline or administrative duties Function as a substitute administrator or substitute teacher Provide isolated, one-time professional development disconnected from coaching cycles Operate independently of school leadership or instructional priorities The coach's work must remain focused on strengthening classroom instruction through structured, sustained, and practice-based support. Reporting Structure The Instructional Coach may report to: The Building Principal, in close collaboration with the district's Curriculum and Instruction Department; OR The District Curriculum and Instruction Department, with regular collaboration and alignment meetings with the Building Principal. Regardless of reporting structure, the coach must: Maintain close alignment with school leadership Ensure coherence between district instructional vision and school-level implementation Participate in ongoing district-level professional learning and calibration Time Allocation Expectations At least 70-80% of the coach's time must be dedicated to: Modeling instruction Co-teaching Structured coaching cycles Facilitating collaborative teacher learning Professional learning Other coaching-related tasks, such as documentation, teacher feedback, and those outlined under "Additional Responsibilities and Roles" can be considered for the remaining time.
