This role focuses on improving achievement and engagement for students with the highest needs by addressing missing assignments, monitoring grades, and promoting consistent progress toward IEP goals. The position requires strong instructional, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a focus on maximizing classroom time and aligning instruction. Duties & Responsibilities Instructional Support & Student Achievement
- Deliver direct and co-taught instruction aligned with students' IEP goals, focusing on literacy, math, and content-area success.
- Collaborate with general education and CTE teachers to adapt lessons and materials for accessibility and success in maritime and academic courses.
- Track and support the completion of missing assignments, ensuring that all students have equitable opportunities to recover credit and demonstrate mastery.
- Monitor grades weekly, identifying students who are failing or at risk and implementing timely interventions.
- Prioritize instructional time for students with the highest needs, ensuring efficient use of time in small groups or one-on-one instruction.
- Grade student assignments consistently and provide meaningful feedback that supports growth and accountability. IEP and ETR Development & Compliance
- Develop and write high-quality, measurable IEP goals and Evaluation Team Reports (ETRs) aligned with student data and Ohio Operating Standards.
- Conduct progress monitoring, collect data, and provide quarterly updates on IEP goals.
- Maintain detailed and compliant documentation of services, data logs, and communication records.
- Participate in IEP, ETR, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) meetings as a core team member. Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Partner with teachers, instructional aides, and service providers to deliver inclusive and differentiated instruction.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding academic progress, behavioral supports, and attendance.
- Model and promote positive behavioral supports consistent with TMAT's PBIS framework.
- Participate in professional learning opportunities, including special education law, instructional design, and progress monitoring systems.
- Uphold confidentiality, ethics, and compliance with IDEA, FERPA, and TMAT policy. Schoolwide Contribution
- Support school-wide data-driven initiatives to improve literacy, attendance, and behavior outcomes.
- Participate in TMAT community and family engagement nights, and student support initiatives.
- Collaborate on projects that support hands-on and career-oriented learning.
Desired Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Intervention Specialist License (Mild/Moderate K-12 or Moderate/Intensive K-12).
- Successful completion of Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE): ○ Assessment of Professional Knowledge (APK) for K-12. ○ Special Education content assessment (e.g., OAE 043 or equivalent).
- Completion of FBI and BCI background checks per Ohio Revised Code §3319.39.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing IEPs and ETRs aligned to student performance data.
- Strong time management and organizational skills for efficient use of classroom time and documentation.
- Familiarity with progress monitoring, grading platforms, and evidence-based interventions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for goal-setting, collaboration, and reporting.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related area.
- Additional certifications in reading endorsement, autism education, or behavior analysis.
- Experience in charter, urban, or career-technical education environments.
- Background in data-driven instruction and use of online SIS systems (e.g., PowerSchool, ProgressBook).
- Experience supporting transition planning, behavior management, or assistive technology integration. Physical Demands
- Regular standing, walking, and movement between classrooms and learning labs.
- Occasional lifting of instructional materials or assistive equipment (up to 25 lbs).
- Extended periods of sitting for documentation, grading, or virtual instruction.
- Visual and auditory acuity to monitor student progress and safety in classroom settings.
