Description Position Purpose Provides instructional design expertise and technical support in the application of educational design and delivery methodologies, ensuring effective use of available techniques in creating and updating learning/course materials. Organization Role This is a professional consulting position within the organization. Reporting to the Assistant Provost, Teaching & Learning, the Instructional Design & Developer Consultant is responsible for the design and development of high-quality online courses and learning artifacts. As a consultant, this role does not have supervisory responsibilities but does provide leadership for assigned projects. Job Scope This position has a shared indirect effect on The College's distance learning course revenues and works closely with others on the EDUCATE team, subject matter experts, and program directors. Expected Contributions
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
Key/Representative Activities:
Manage time and resources necessary for instructional design projects from needs assessment to completion, ensuring effective execution and timely delivery of course design projects. Design, develop, and implement engaging course content and innovative instructional materials, utilizing eLearning development tools, authoring software, leveraging features and capabilities within the LMS, and other platforms. Apply instructional design theories and models, such as ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) or SAM (Successive Approximation Model), to develop structured and learner-centered course outlines and materials. Ensure all deliverables meet accessibility standards and are designed to be inclusive for all learners, adhering to WCAG and Section 508 guidelines. Write effective copy, instructional text, audio, and video scripts, and utilize eLearning development tools and software to create instructionally sound learning components in collaboration with academic experts, SMEs, and team members. Perform quality assurance reviews of newly created courses to ensure accuracy and functionality. Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
General and business knowledge equivalent to a bachelor's degree plus 3 to 4 years progressive experience in Instructional Design. A Master of Science in Instructional Design preferred Working knowledge and experience designing courses inside the D2L Brightspace LMS Strong preference for experience with D2L Creator+ and D2L Lumi Familiarity with eLearning development tools, authoring software, and video editing tools such as Captivate, Articulate, iSpring, Camtasia, etc. Skilled in creating and editing audio, video, and graphic content to enhance learning materials Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and experience in designing inclusive and accessible learning experiences Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project planning skills Prior experience desired in the financial industry or instructional design in career-focused programs In policy and practice, we encourage diversity and provide equal employment opportunities to all individuals based on job-related qualifications and ability to perform a job.
