Canvas LMS Position Summary:
The Instructional Designer is responsible for the architectural design, development, and maintenance of standardized "Master" courses within the Canvas LMS. The Instructional Designer identifies current digital instructional technologies and tools and trains Curriculum Designers to integrate them into Foothills' Canvas courses, ensuring students have access to high-quality, engaging curriculum.
Skills and Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred).
Technical Expertise:
Advanced proficiency in Canvas LMS, including Blueprint functionality, Mastery Paths, and the New Quizzes engine.
Standards Knowledge:
Familiarity with high school curriculum standards and the UDL (Universal Design for Learning) framework.
Multimedia Skills:
Experience with screen-recording software (e.g., Loom, Camtasia) and basic
HTML/CSS
within the Canvas Rich Content Editor. Experience with LTI integrations Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple course launches simultaneously. Primary Responsibilities Develop and maintain standardized Canvas Blueprints using a consistent 10-module cadence optimized for high school learners. Design intuitive course homepages and navigation menus to minimize student cognitive load and "click-fatigue." Build "Master Templates" for pages, assignments, and discussions to ensure a cohesive visual and functional brand across all departments. Perform rigorous quality assurance checks. Build capacity in the Curriculum Designers to translate state standards into engaging asynchronous learning experiences. Ensure 100% compliance with
WCAG 2.1
(Level AA) standards, including the use of alt-text, heading hierarchies, and closed-captioned multimedia. Vet all digital resources for copyright compliance and proper licensing (OER, Creative Commons). Seek and respond to teacher feedback regarding course content and design. Provide guidance and supervision to the Curriculum Designers so the can effectively: Review and evaluate both formative and summative assessment data to identify strengths and areas for growth and development within courses, modules, and lessons. Develop additional lessons and resources to enhance existing units of study. Review, revise, and develop formative and summative assessment items for units of study. Collaborate regularly with the Curriculum Specialist to identify and prioritize projects, initiatives, and timelines.
Pay:
$49.50 per hour
