Arizona Wildlife Federation's outdoor education programs encompass outdoor skills building, experiential education, ecological, conservation, and advocacy content. This position reports to the Deputy Director. The Outdoor Education Coordinator will be responsible for: Support of the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program Direct management and growth of the Bridges program with an emphasis on leading single day events Additional duties may be assigned according to the needs of the organization and the evolution of our education programs. This position has the potential to evolve into a full-time Director of Outdoor Education position. About the
Programs:
Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) provides adult women with a wide range of outdoor skills: fishing, rappelling, paddling, shooting sports, archery, birding, campfire cooking, and much more. BOW weekend workshops are held twice a year in Prescott engaging 60 participants. Staffing includes a contract manager, a contract support role, and an additional 20 instructor and logistics volunteers. Single day BOW programs are typically offered in non-BOW Workshop months. BOW celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2026. Bridges is a program that helps women from underserved communities successfully participate in the BOW program by removing economic barriers and providing additional social support. More than 80 women have participated over the last six years. The program has grown to include conservation campout weekends and monthly single day events. Responsibilities 1. Planning Develop and document a basic annual plan for the Bridges program including event dates, curriculum content, primary logistics needs, budget, communications timeline, staffing of contractors, volunteers, and other support. Hold debrief sessions after major milestones in program delivery to assess needs and develop strategies for improvement. 2. Coordinating Organize and manage the program support team including vendors, instructors, staff, volunteers, participants, and others in order to provide a seamless experiential education program for all participants. Manage program budgets, recruitment communications, online registrations, venue logistics, and the many individuals responsible for each program component. 3. Communicating Maintain strong relationships through tailored communication styles and varied channels (in person, via Zoom, telephone, e-mail, text, etc….). Respond to communication needs quickly and effectively. Generate content for the Bridges newsletter, Arizona Wildlife News magazine, AWF e-news, social media, and grant applications. 4. Teaching/Training Teach and train core volunteers, interns, and participants all skills necessary for executing education programs Provide network of program support personnel with basic ecological and conservation knowledge necessary to further AWF's mission Lead classes or outings and provide training to participants as expertise allows 5. Administration Manage records, data, receipts, reimbursements, registrations with support from AWF's Office Manager 6. Relationship-building Follow up and maintain relationships with program participants both independently and through AWF communications platforms (social media, direct e-mail, quarterly magazine) Create new and foster current partnerships with partner organizations Maintain vendor, funder, and instructor relationships also 7. Visionary Leadership and Team-Oriented Approach Establish and document short-term goals and long-term vision for Bridges education programming Stay abreast of organizational needs, interests, and priorities; make sure that education programming reflects organizational values Work as closely as possible with other staff members to achieve a team-oriented approach Locate potential funding sources (grants, sponsorships, donors) and work with AWF staff to engage them successfully Contribute to vision for future education programming Qualifications Personally aligned and committed to the Arizona Wildlife Federation's mission and values. Passionate about Arizona's outdoors, outdoor education, conservation, and outdoor recreation, hunting, and/or fishing. Bachelor's degree in natural sciences or environmental education-related programming (demonstrated equivalent experience will also be considered). A minimum of 2 years experience working in program or event development. Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills Lived experience working with diverse communities. Very comfortable in the outdoors and able to instill comfort and safety in others new to outdoor experiences. Demonstrate strong leadership and time management skills, and show initiative and good judgment. See problems as opportunities. Generate creative ideas and translate them into actionable plans. Very organized; demonstrate the ability to manage multiple programs/projects. Self-motivated, able to set aggressive, measurable goals and work independently Must pass a criminal history background check.
