. Overview of the Youth Education Coordinator Role Future Generations University is seeking a highly motivated Youth Education Coordinator to support the Community Engagement Program. Through primarily interfacing with educators and community leaders, the Coordinator will promote community economic development in agroforestry, agritourism, and outdoor recreation as it is specific to youth activities. This role will be responsible for educating, providing information, providing needs assessment, and serve as a problem-solving resource for partners and networks with the agricultural industry, including: specialists, producers, tourism professionals, University Extension agents, K-12 Educators and administrators, and Government Agency representatives. The ideal candidate for the Youth Education Coordinator position should have experience working specifically in the Appalachian Region and experience specifically working with educators, school systems, community members, and/or working in youth programs. A candidate with an understanding of agriculture and/or forestry education principles, is preferred but not required. The position will require regional travel, and flexible work scheduling that may at times require attending meetings outside of normal business hours to accommodate deadlines, community meetings, and coordination with producer or project partner schedules. Reporting Structure for this Position This position reports directly to the Director of Grants and Operations, for primary supervision, and supports Community Engagement staff. Key Position Responsibilities Implementation of School Education Program- Implement 9-month virtual training program for educators, community members, and others who want to engage with youth in agriculture or nutrition programming or work on local sourcing activities as part of a Farm to School program. Work with communications staff and community engagement staff to advertise and recruit participants for the School programming. Edit existing resources and adapt to the current cohort. Coordinate special guest speakers for programming. Deliver the School program every other week from February-October Schedule and facilitate 3-4 in person meet ups for the current cohort and previous cohorts. Support project participants through one-on-one coaching and feedback processes. Keep assessments and evaluations as needed and required by specific funding streams for the School programming. Manage the FGU Maple in the Classroom Program- a curriculum created by Future Generations University specifically for the K-12 audience to teach forest education through the production of maple syrup. Work with communications staff and community engagement staff to advertise and recruit participants for FGU Maple in the Classroom programming. Execute logistics related to several in-person training across the Central Appalachian region for FGU Maple in the Classroom programming. Deliver 4-8 in person trainings throughout Central Appalachia to educators, community leaders, and others that want to utilize maple syrup production in their classrooms or youth settings. Work as part of a team to support individual schools and sites as needed. Collect all metrics and data related to the FGU Maple in the Classroom program. Provide feedback and support with further curricula development as needed. Management and Cataloging of Forest on the Go Resources- the 'Forest on the Go' Resource Library includes various sets of themed resources related to forestry education, including materials for all activities for up to 25 students, that educators and community members can 'check out' for 3-6 weeks at a time. Maintain the database and ensure that all boxes and materials are properly accounted for and cataloged. Ensure timely replenishment of expendable materials. Update lesson plans and resources as necessary. Work with the communications team to market the 'Forest on the Go' resource library to the public. Provide training and guidance when needed. Collect and enter all metrics related to 'Forest on the Go' Resource utilization Informal Education and Outreach Regularly table at public events such as the WV Small Farms Conference, Forest Farming Field Day, local agricultural field days, etc. Coordinate and assist with experience education opportunities in the region such as the WV State Fair, Franklin Troutfest, WV Maple Days, Highland Maple Festival, etc. Assist Community Engagement program team on an as needed basis Attend meetings, conferences, and training as needed. Assist with Community Engagement Fundraising and Reporting duties as needed Other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Capabilities Must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree at the time of employment in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university. Master's degree is preferred, with at least one degree in a discipline related to subject matter specialty area. Agricultural knowledge or experience -- experience producing maple syrup a plus. Demonstrated ability to recruit, select, and train program participants. Demonstrated ability to lead groups, plan, implement, facilitate, teach and evaluate youth educational information programs. Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Initiative and ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision. Knowledge of Google Drive, Zoom, Microsoft Office and other computer technology in educational programming and management. Valid driver's license and means of transportation to commute throughout the region served. Mileage reimbursement will be discussed upon hire. Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and presentation skills. Self-directed, reliable, collaborative, proactive, and mission-driven. Ability to comply with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations. Compensation & Benefits The salary range for this position is $50,000 - 55,000 per year, plus benefits. Actual salary will be commensurate with the experience, skills and qualifications that the candidate brings to the position. This position has the ability to determine their preferred holiday and time off schedule, Flexible Time Off (FTO). Location & Hours The successful candidate would work Monday through Friday in our main office (outside Franklin, West Virginia) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with an occasional need to work irregular hours and/or weekends. We will also consider a hybrid-remote work arrangement for candidates who live within a three-hour driving radius of Franklin, WV, the ideal candidate would reside within the Appalachia service area. If hybrid, the candidate would need to be available to work 832 hours per year in-office (average of two days per week, but can make arrangements with supervision staff to meet in office productivity); lodging is available for multi-day stays. Physical Demands This position requires the ability to perform essential job functions in both office settings and field environments as necessary. This position may include extended time periods of sitting, working at a computer, and participation in virtual and in-person meetings as necessary. This role requires the ability to occasionally travel, both domestically and internationally as required. This may include travel to locations that are not accessible by public transportation, thus the individual must be able to meet the travel requirements with or without reasonable accommodation. The position may be required to occasionally lift and/or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
