Job Description

Job Summary:
The Community College of Rhode Island invites applicants to apply as a Welding Instructor within the Division of Workforce Partnerships. The Division of Workforce Partnerships is seeking experienced welding professionals to build and deliver a welding training program. Instructors will deliver high-quality, hands-on training aligned with employer demand and industry standards while contributing to the ongoing development and refinement of welding curriculum. This position is part-time and based at CCRI workforce training locations, with schedules that may include day, evening, and/or weekend hours in response to employer needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver hands-on welding instruction aligned with industry standards (e.g., AWS) and employer expectations Create, refine, and continuously improve welding curriculum, including lesson plans, instructional materials, and competency-based assessments Ensure all learning outcomes are met, with a strong focus on student skill development and job readiness Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to support diverse learning styles and maximize student engagement Integrate safety, blueprint reading, fabrication techniques, and welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick) into instruction Maintain detailed records of student attendance, progress, skill attainment, and final evaluations Collaborate with program leadership, employer partners, and other instructors to align curriculum with workforce needs and hiring demand Support program innovation by identifying new training opportunities, equipment needs, and industry trends Maintain a safe, clean, and fully operational lab environment, ensuring proper use and accountability of tools and equipment Promote student retention through creative instruction, coaching, and support strategies Adhere to ADA guidelines and CCRI policies regarding student accommodations Participate in instructor trainings and professional development (minimum of 2 annually) Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding within a manufacturing or trade environment AWS certifications (e.g., Certified Welder, CWI, or equivalent) Experience in instruction, training, mentoring, or supervising others in a shop or classroom setting Demonstrated expertise in welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) and fabrication techniques Ability to develop or contribute to curriculum, including lesson planning and skills-based training design Strong understanding of welding safety standards and best practices Proficiency with technology (Microsoft Office, instructional tools, and digital communication platforms) Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills Commitment to training and preparing the next generation of welding professionals
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching in workforce development, postsecondary, or adult education settings Experience developing or launching new training programs or curriculum Familiarity with employer-driven training models and competency-based education Experience working with diverse student populations Knowledge of industry-recognized credentials and pathways in welding and advanced manufacturing Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of any employment visa including student visas.
