Job Description
Overview Royal Live Oaks Academy is seeking one person to join our team. The Special Education and Student Services Coordinator provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for all special education programs and student support services to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that support diverse student populations, including students with disabilities, Section 504 students, behavioral supports, and other student support systems. The Coordinator collaborates with school leaders, teachers, families, community organizations, and outside agencies to ensure equitable access, student achievement, and high-quality educational programming. He or she also serves as the Title IX Coordinator to ensure compliance with federal regulations and maintain a safe, supportive, and equitable educational environment. Duties Leadership & Program Oversight Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all special education and student services programs. Develop, implement, and evaluate systems that promote student achievement, inclusion, and equitable access to educational opportunities. Lead the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of student support systems, behavioral supports, and inclusive practices. Supervise and evaluate special education teachers and staff. Serve as a liaison to related contract service providers, interventionists, and student support personnel. Ensure alignment of special education and student services with organizational goals, strategic priorities, and school improvement plans. Special Education Compliance & Administration Ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, ADA, ESSA, state regulations, and local policies. Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), eligibility determinations, reevaluations, manifestation determinations, and procedural safeguards. Monitor compliance timelines, service delivery, student records, and reporting requirements. Ensure schools maintain accurate documentation and compliance with all state and federal mandates. Lead internal monitoring, audits, corrective action plans (if warranted), and preparation for authorizer reviews and/or compliance visits. Assist with the scheduling and placement of special education and Section 504 students to ensure services, accommodations, and instructional supports are implemented in accordance with student plans and compliance requirements. Collaborate with school administration and counseling staff to support the scheduling of students receiving special education and Section 504 services to ensure compliance with IEPs, accommodations, service minutes, and educational needs. Student Services Oversight Oversee Section 504 services. Coordinate student referrals for evaluations, specialized programming, and related services. Develop and monitor 504 plans. Collaborate with school counselor, psychologist, school nurse, and outside agencies to address student needs. Support crisis response planning and student-centered interventions. Collaborate with outside agencies who provide services to our students. Instructional Leadership Promote evidence-based instructional strategies, differentiated instruction, and inclusive educational practices. Provide leadership and support for accommodations, modifications, behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and student-centered instructional supports. Analyze student achievement and programmatic data to improve outcomes for students receiving services. Ensure educational programs meet academic standards and promote measurable student growth. Additional Responsibilities Serve as the organization's Title IX Coordinator, ensuring compliance with federal Title IX regulations related to discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. Coordinate investigations, maintain required documentation, provide staff training, oversee grievance procedures, and ensure timely responses to complaints while fostering a safe and equitable learning environment for all students and staff. Professional Development Design and facilitate professional learning opportunities for teachers, administrators, and staff on special education compliance, instructional strategies, behavior supports, inclusion, accommodations, and student services. Build staff capacity to effectively support students with diverse learning needs. Family & Community Engagement Foster collaborative partnerships with families to support student success and meaningful participation in educational planning. Serve as the primary liaison among families, school personnel, community organizations, and service providers. Ensure timely and effective communication regarding services, supports, and student progress. Budget & Resource Management Develop and manage budgets related to special education and student services. Monitor grants, contracted providers, and special education funding. Ensure effective allocation of personnel, materials, and resources to meet student needs. Data, Accountability & Reporting Analyze program effectiveness through student performance, compliance, and service delivery data. Prepare reports for leadership, governing boards, and state agencies. Monitor key performance indicators and implement improvement plans as needed. Other Duties Attend board meetings, leadership meetings, and required trainings. Stay current on changes in federal and state laws, regulations, and best practices. Academy/Chief of Staff Qualifications:
Education & Certification Master's degree required; in Special Education, Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field. Valid state certification in Special Education required. Educational Leadership/Administrative certification required. Director of Special Education endorsement or equivalent preferred. Experience Minimum of 5-7 years of successful experience in special education, student services, or related educational leadership roles. Experience supervising staff and leading special education or student support programs required. Experience with charter schools, school systems, compliance monitoring, and program administration preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Extensive knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, ADA, ESSA, MTSS/RTI, and special education compliance requirements. Strong leadership, organizational, and strategic planning skills. Ability to interpret laws, regulations, and policies related to student services. Expertise in instructional supports, intervention strategies, and inclusive education. Strong communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and participate in school-based activities. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
