PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Coordinate the district's secondary curricular math program to meet student needs to ensure integrity of the program and the vision of the district. Serve as instructional leader in development and improvement of instructional programs, methods, and engagement strategies in mathematics. Coach teachers and administrators through Observation and Feedback protocol. Coordinate administration of benchmark and common assessment testing in math, disaggregation and interpretation of data, and standardized test data to positively impact student performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Master's degree (preferred) Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to organize and coordinate districtwide program Knowledge of strategies and materials based on Best Practice and research-based philosophies Knowledge of requirements of state mandated testing for all populations Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years experience as classroom teacher Experience in leading campus level projects and/or teacher teams
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Instructional Management Conduct needs assessment to evaluate math academic programs for grades 6-12. Oversee and direct a comprehensive secondary math academic program that is aligned vertically and horizontally for grades 6-12 within the vision and goals of the district. Coordinate the development, revision and alignment of the math curriculum for grades 6-12. Collaborate with other district coordinators and instructional staff to integrate disciplines at each grade level with the math programs. Assist teachers to develop and provide students with alternative course work through curriculum modification, acceleration, etc. Assist teachers in the developing, creation or implementation of materials used to enhance instructional math programs in grades 6-12. Research a variety of instructional materials and textbooks and make recommendations for purchase and coordinate textbook selection process in math, specific to courses in 6-12. Coordinate the planning and application of technologies in conjunction with the Instructional Technology Coordinator in the secondary math programs. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the secondary math, including student performance data, and implement changes based on findings. Serve on state and local committees, as appropriate. Policy, Reports, and Law Recommend sound policies directed to improve programs. Comply and implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local policy. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Budget and Inventory Compile budget initiatives and cost estimates based on documented program needs. Personnel Management Develop, conduct or arrange for staff development sessions, including sessions on delivery of instruction, enriched learning, and other related training for the improvement of student performance in the secondary math academic areas for 6-12. Serves as an advisor to principals and teachers of secondary math students. Work directly with classroom teachers to improve math academic areas. Coach individual teachers and administrators through Observation & Feedback protocol. Observe and document classroom instruction through walkthroughs. Plan appropriate staff development based upon student data and classroom walkthroughs to improve skills of classroom teachers. Communication and Community Support Provide resources and materials to support staff in accomplishing program goals. Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding the district's secondary math programs. Plan and assist campus staff with parent meetings, as appropriate. Articulate the district's mission and goals in secondary math and science to the community and solicit its support in realizing mission. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. Other Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent travel, both districtwide and out of district; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; ability to interpret student data; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form; knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in academic areas; computer processing skills.
