A Curriculum Specialist works in a public school district to coordinate curriculum. Works with teachers to develop curriculum that helps students learn effectively and meets state educational standards. Analyzes student assessment data, and chooses textbooks, educational materials, and new technologies to support teaching. May specialize in particular grade levels or subject areas, or education for specific groups of students such as English Language Learners.

We provide support services for animals, the humans who love them, and the agencies that protect them. SUMMARY The Fredericksburg SPCA is seeking a passionate and dynamic Humane Education Specialist to lead the hands-on portion of our youth educational programs, including Summer Camp, Animal Allies, Pawsitive Pathways, Barkday Bashes, and Homeschool/School Outreaches. Working with children ages 5-16, these programs inspire compassion, empathy, and responsible pet ownership through engaging, age-appropriate activities and animal welfare education. The Humane Education Specialist will work directly with youth in both shelter and outreach settings, coordinating interactive activities, fostering meaningful connections between people and animals, and ensuring programs run safely and smoothly in alignment with the

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and facilitate the hands-on portion of youth educational programs, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for participants. Oversee all aspects of summer camp programming, working alongside an assistant to manage daily operations. Supervise and guide children during activities, maintaining a positive, respectful atmosphere. Provide age-appropriate instruction on topics such as animal care, shelter operations, and humane treatment of animals. Coordinate with other staff and volunteers to prepare program spaces, materials, and animal interactions. Assist with program setup, breakdown, and clean-up. Serve as a positive role model, reinforcing program expectations and promoting respect for animals and people. Represent the

during outreach events in schools, community centers, and other venues.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Outgoing, enthusiastic, and confident working with children of varied ages. Comfortable working in a shelter environment and interacting with animals (training provided). Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting. Previous experience in education, youth programs, camp counseling, or similar preferred. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to humane education.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work may take place indoors in a climate-controlled setting, outdoors at the shelter, or at offsite outreach locations. Frequent interaction with children and animals; requires patience, adaptability, and attention to safety. May involve moderate physical activity, including lifting, moving program materials, or animal handling.
DRESS CODE
Acceptable attire includes full-set scrubs or scrub bottoms with an SPCA logo shirt, jeans with an SPCA logo shirt, or business casual clothing. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required at all times. Avoid loose or dangling accessories that could pose safety risks.
HOURS Schedule:
TBD but Saturday's will be required with the occasional Sunday.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This is an hourly, non-exempt position with a seasonal (summer) full-time schedule, with part-time throughout the rest of the year. After a 90-day probationary period, the employee will become eligible for paid time off, paid birthday leave, low- or no-cost adoptions, and discounted shopping in the Fredericksburg SPCA's boutique.
