This position is funded by revenues received from HCS Toolkit clients. Continuance of the position is contingent upon the future of program revenues. (HCS Toolkit revenues are reviewed on an annual basis.)POSITION SUMMARY
The Curriculum Specialist plays a key role in supporting the Hampton City Schools (HCS) Toolkit Enterprise and ensuring high-quality, compliant, and accessible curriculum resources across HCS and partner districts. This position bridges technical management with instructional alignmentmaintaining, reviewing, and monitoring all curriculum files, pacing guides, and unit plans to uphold accuracy, accessibility, and copyright compliance. The Curriculum Specialist collaborates closely with all HCS curriculum departments; district partners; and the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to ensure a seamless experience for teachers and external users accessing curriculum materials.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Management & Quality Assurance Review and monitor all curriculum files to ensure accuracy and accessibility. Verify that all curriculum materials are free from copyright infringement and adhere to district content policies. Audit digital curriculum folders to confirm that documents are correctly named, linked, and accessible to appropriate users. Collaborate with curriculum teams to ensure pacing guides, unit plans, and assessment links are current, functional, and properly formatted. Toolkit Enterprise Support Serve as a contact for maintaining and updating curriculum content within the Toolkit platform. Coordinate with curriculum departments to upload, revise, or archive Toolkit materials as needed. Collaborate with IT and external partners to troubleshoot technical or access-related issues. Support ongoing improvements to the Toolkit user experience, ensuring that curriculum content remains clear, intuitive, and easily navigable. Develop and share marketing materials of the curriculum and related services. Maintain open communication with partner districts regarding updates, changes, or troubleshooting resolutions. Develop and lead professional development opportunities for partnering divisions. Monitoring and Data Tracking Track and document trends in user feedback and access requests to identify recurring needs or potential improvements. Support data collection and reporting to inform decision-making and continuous improvement of curriculum systems. Departmental Support Collaborate with curriculum leaders and teacher specialists to ensure curriculum consistency across grade levels and subject areas. Assist with preparing materials, summaries, and updates for curriculum department meetings and presentations. Support cross-departmental initiatives related to curriculum review, revision, and resource integration. Participate in professional learning and stay informed of best practices in digital curriculum management, accessibility, and copyright compliance. Lead professional development on curriculum related initiatives as well as the curriculum process.REQUIREMENTS
: Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Virginia Teaching License required. Minimum of three years of successful full-time teaching experience. Strong foundation in curriculum development (including Understanding by Design) and project-based learning. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver engaging, relevant professional development. Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to coordinate schedules and manage multiple stakeholders. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively using a team-based approach. Self-directed with the ability to set and meet both short- and long-term goals. Proficiency with digital tools, including Google Drive, shared drives, and online curriculum platforms. Familiarity with copyright laws and educational fair use guidelines. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, families, and community members in a PreK12 setting.APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
