Curriculum Overview :
We offer instruction, to ages k-12, in a variety of dance genres including tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, and modern. Our curriculum is designed to integrate dance with a variety of other arts such as music, voice, painting, poetry, and sculpture. Our curriculum is built to support academics by connecting subjects such as history, science, cultural studies into the dance instruction to support multifaceted learning. Our curriculum at Dance Integrations OC directly supports the California Arts Standards for Dance by guiding students through the four artistic processes — Creating, Performing, Responding, and Connecting — as defined by the standards. For example, students generate original movement ideas or adapt existing ones (Anchor Standard "Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work"), organize and develop choreography using dance elements (Anchor Standard "Organize and develop artistic ideas and work"), and refine and present dance works for performance (Anchor Standards "Refine and complete artistic work" and "Select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation"). Additionally, by integrating dance with music, visual arts, poetry, cultural history, science and social-studies themes, our program leverages the arts as a medium to deepen understanding of broader academic content — thereby supporting the Common Core's expectation that arts instruction can play a role in literacy development and cross-disciplinary learning.
