June 23, 2026 About Piedmont School of Music & Dance Piedmont School of Music & Dance (PSMD) is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and student-centered Classical Ballet Instructor to join our growing faculty. The ideal candidate will possess strong classical ballet training and teaching experience, along with exposure to basic tap and jazz techniques. Extensive experience in tap and jazz is not required; however, applicants should demonstrate a willingness to learn, follow curriculum guidelines, and teach foundational-level classes in these disciplines. This year-round position reports directly to the Dance Program Director. The position is hourly; however, highly qualified applicants may be considered for a salaried position based upon experience and credentials. Position Summary The successful candidate will teach students of all ages and levels, from Creative Movement through advanced ballet and pointe. Responsibilities include choreography for the Annual Student Performance, rehearsing and staging Piedmont Dance Theatre productions, and helping maintain a positive, structured, and encouraging learning environment. Faculty members at PSMD are expected to embrace our curriculum, teaching philosophy, customer service standards, and commitment to student growth. Successful instructors understand that excellent teaching, strong communication, and positive relationships with families are all essential to student success. Primary Responsibilities Teach Creative Movement, ballet, and pointe classes for students of varying ages and levels Teach foundational tap and jazz classes using PSMD curriculum and lesson plans Follow a detailed curriculum while making appropriate adjustments to meet student needs Maintain consistent class structure, terminology, and teaching standards established by PSMD Choreograph and rehearse dances for the Annual Student Performance Rehearse and stage The Nutcracker production for Piedmont Dance Theatre Provide constructive corrections in a positive, encouraging, and age-appropriate manner Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment Communicate professionally with students, parents, faculty, and administration Assist with costume fittings, rehearsals, performances, and studio events as needed Participate in open houses, trial classes, enrollment conferences, and community events Support student retention efforts by building strong relationships with students and families Learn and implement PSMD's enrollment and customer service procedures Teach at both studio locations as needed: 1605 Old Earnhardt Road, Kannapolis, NC 3220 Prosperity Church Road, Charlotte, NC Preferred Skills The following skills are highly desirable: Experience teaching tap, jazz, and/or contemporary dance Choreographic experience Rehearsal direction experience Costume fitting and backstage production experience Experience working with recreational and pre-professional students Strong classroom management skills Our Philosophy Piedmont School of Music & Dance strives to create a loving, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student is encouraged to pursue their individual goals.

Requirements Strong classical ballet technique and teaching ability Willingness to learn and teach foundational tap and jazz techniques Ability to provide leadership and effectively manage students Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills Excellent time management and organizational skills Ability to multitask and work independently Flexibility, patience, and professionalism Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team Basic computer proficiency, including: Google Docs Canva Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between studio locations Willingness to learn and implement proven enrollment, retention, and customer service techniques Comfortable communicating with prospective and current families regarding class placement and program opportunities Education & Experience Applicants should possess one or more of the following: Professional classical ballet training and performance experience; and/or Bachelor's Degree in Dance Performance, Dance Education, or a related field
Preferred:

Multiple dance genres are a plus. Job Type Contract Position Compensation is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and teaching responsibilities.
