Acro Dance Instructor, Charleston, SC (James Island) Part-Time, Compensation Commensurate with Experience info@islandtwistathletics.co About Island Twist Athletics Island Twist Athletics is a new youth training program launching on James Island in the Charleston, SC area, offering three distinct programs under one roof: cheerleading, tumbling, and a dance studio program with a signature emphasis on acro dance. Our dance studio program will offer a full range of dance styles alongside acro as our signature specialty, with both recreational classes for students who dance for the love of it and a competitive track for athletes ready to take their training to the next level. Island Twist is founded by a former UNC Chapel Hill cheerleader and all-star athlete with roots in competitive dance and dance instruction. Our founder is also a licensed occupational therapist, bringing deep expertise in body mechanics, injury prevention, and safe athletic progression. She is fully present in daily operations and committed to building this program alongside you. What You'll Do Acro Dance Teach acro dance classes across age groups and skill levels, from beginner recreational students to advanced competitive athletes Instruct foundational through advanced acrobatic skills, including flexibility, strength, kickovers, walkovers, handsprings, aerials, limbers, advanced tumbling progressions, and partner or group acro Design and implement safe, progressive curriculum that builds skills systematically and keeps students confident Choreograph and teach full acro dance routines, recreational choreography, acro elements, and solos for students on both recreational and competitive tracks, including attending competitions and supporting athletes throughout the competition season Spot and progressively load skills with a strong emphasis on technique and injury prevention Dance Studio Classes Teach additional dance styles based on scheduling needs and your areas of expertise (ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary, and others are welcome) Support the development of a well-rounded dance studio curriculum alongside ownership Instruct both recreational and competitive dance classes, tailoring your approach to each track Tumbling (As Needed) Assist with or lead recreational tumbling classes as scheduling demands Apply the same progression-based, safety-first approach used in acro to tumbling instruction Program & Culture Maintain a safe, positive, and high-accountability training environment at all times Build trust with students and families through proactive, clear communication Collaborate with ownership on student placement, class structure, and long-term program vision What We're Looking For Demonstrated competitive performance or teaching experience in acro dance required Strong technical foundation in acrobatic skills and the ability to safely spot and progress students of all levels Experience teaching dance in a studio setting, with comfort across multiple styles Experience working with children and youth athletes across a range of ages Patience, creativity, and an encouraging coaching style that meets students where they are Strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to student and family relationships Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before start date) Ability to pass a background check Flexible availability for part-time evening and/or weekend scheduling Bonus Points If You Have Experience coaching acro dance on a competitive team Tumbling coaching experience at beginner through intermediate levels Comfort with multiple dance styles — the broader your range, the more we can build together An existing network of dance families in Charleston, James Island, or surrounding areas Comfort with social media and enthusiasm for helping grow the Island Twist brand online Compensation & Perks Part-time hourly or per-class compensation structured to reflect your experience and versatility Real opportunity to grow your hours and role as the studio expands A collaborative, founder-led environment where your voice helps shape the program from day one Professional development support and room to grow into a lead instructor role over time How to Apply Send your resume, a brief teaching bio, and any performance or teaching footage to: info@islandtwistathletics.co References from a studio director, competition coach, or gym owner are strongly encouraged.
