Are you an instructional leader with a deep commitment to literacy, language development, and equitable access to rigorous learning for all students? John Hersey High School is seeking an accomplished, visionary Division Head of English and Fine Arts to lead and inspire our English department. This is a high-impact leadership role for an administrator who is passionate about teaching and learning, skilled in coaching educators, and driven to ensure that every student—regardless of background or language proficiency—achieves at high levels. As Division Head, you will shape curriculum, strengthen instruction, and foster a collaborative professional culture that advances student achievement and academic excellence.
What You'll Do:
Provide instructional leadership for the English and Fine Arts department, ensuring alignment with district priorities, state standards, and best practices in literacy and language acquisition. Supervise, support, and evaluate department staff through meaningful observations, feedback, and coaching cycles. Lead curriculum development, implementation, and continuous improvement, with a focus on culturally responsive instruction and rigorous, engaging learning experiences. Partner with teachers to analyze student performance data and design targeted instructional strategies and interventions. Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) that promote collaboration, reflective practice, and continuous growth. Serve as a key thought partner to school leadership in advancing schoolwide instructional initiatives and improvement goals. Champion equity, access, and inclusion across all English and Fine Arts courses, programs, and practices. Collaborate with families, student services, and community partners to support student success and academic progress.
What We're Looking For:
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative Endorsement Demonstrated expertise in curriculum leadership, instructional coaching, and teacher evaluation Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Commitment to equity-driven leadership and supporting diverse learners A passion for student success and a commitment to equity in education EL/ML experience preferred

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary Range:
Administrative Salary Grade One
  • $134,511
  • 168,139 Longevity bonus of 1% for those at the top of the salary range Medical, dental, and life insurance plans tailored for you and your family Contribution to TRS (Teachers' Retirement System) for eligible employees 403(b) & 457(b) participation 14 sick days and four personal leave days each year Employee Assistance Program Tuition reimbursement for approved courses Mentorship and development programs designed to prepare you for career advancement $2,000 bonus for completing a pre-approved doctoral program Paid bereavement leave and additional sick days (14/year)
