Full Job Description Position Summary :
The Middle Division Director of Learning Support partners with students, teachers, and families to ensure that students in grades 5-8 receive the academic support, accommodations, and skill development necessary to thrive in a rigorous and supportive school environment. This position plays a central role in fostering student growth through individualized learning support, executive functioning coaching, academic intervention, progress monitoring, and collaborative partnership with faculty and families. The Director of Learning Support- Middle Division works closely with teachers to promote inclusive instructional practices and helps all students access the curriculum with confidence and growing independence.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Learning Support Develop, maintain, and communicate Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for students with educational evaluations or documented learning needs. Assist families who seek educational evaluations or are recommended by faculty to seek educational evaluations. Provide direct academic support and intervention for students in grades 5-8 in areas including: o literacy development, o reading comprehension, o written language, o executive functioning, o organization and study skills, o and mathematics support through honors algebra when appropriate. Support students with executive functioning challenges through targeted coaching in organization, planning, time management, self-advocacy, and study strategies. Teach Student Success classes that support students with learning differences. Lead guided study hall for students who need specific executive functioning interventions. With faculty, implement academic support structures designed to strengthen student learning outcomes and self advocacy. Teach an executive function skills class to grade 5 students. Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on data, observation, and collaboration with faculty. Provide progress monitoring data for students on the Indianapolis Public School caseload with an Educational Service Plan. Attend case conferences and annual Service Plan reviews. Facilitate the transition between Lower Division and Middle Division for all students who need learning support. Meet with the Lower Division Director of Learning Support, teachers, and families to help determine student needs and write Middle Division Individual Learning Plans. Faculty Partnership & Instructional Support Collaborate with Middle Division teachers and the Middle Division Head to facilitate regular student support meetings to support differentiated instruction and inclusive classroom practices and assist teachers in interpreting student learning profiles and educational evaluations. Partner with teachers to implement appropriate accommodations and instructional strategies that support diverse learners. Serve as a resource to faculty regarding learning differences, executive functioning, academic interventions, and student support strategies. Assist teachers in interpreting student learning profiles and educational evaluations. Assessment & Accommodation Coordination Oversee all Middle Division NWEA testing which includes creating testing groups for teachers, coordinating student makeup and retake sessions, and coordinating with administration, faculty, and families. Coordinate and oversee testing accommodations and extended-time testing for Middle Division students. Ensure appropriate implementation of accommodations for classroom and standardized assessments, including NWEA testing. Analyze student performance data, including assessment data and grade trends, to identify patterns and support student growth. Family Communication & Collaboration Maintain proactive, supportive, and collaborative communication with families regarding student progress, accommodations, and learning needs. Serve as a trusted partner for families navigating academic support and student learning differences. School Community & Professional Responsibilities Foster a respectful, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment that encourages academic risk-taking, resilience, and growth. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential student records. Contribute positively to the life of the Middle Division and broader school community. Participate fully in meetings, professional development, school events, duties, and divisional responsibilities. Serve as a faculty advisor, club moderator, or co-curricular contributor as assigned. Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, integrity, and a commitment to continuous growth. Required Qualifications Master's degree in education, special education, learning sciences, psychology, or a related field. Experience working with middle school students and supporting diverse learners. Strong understanding of executive functioning development and adolescent learning needs. Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, families, administrators, and students. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Preferred Qualifications Training and/or experience in: o Orton-Gillingham, o structured literacy, o executive functioning coaching, o learning disabilities, o accommodations implementation, o and differentiated instruction. Experience interpreting psychoeducational evaluations and developing accommodation plans.
