Job Description

Founded in 1986, St. Charles Community College (SCC) has a reputation as one of the best two-year colleges in the state of Missouri. SCC's service area includes a six-county region with a population exceeding 540,000. SCC's main campus, located in Cottleville, has won architectural awards for its innovative, contemporary design. The college's Dardenne Creek Campus features the Center for Healthy Living and the Field to Table Institute. Opening Fall 2025, the Innovation West Campus located in Wentzville features the Regional Workforce Innovation Center. With a focus on innovation, St. Charles Community College is a leader in delivering high quality education in a state-of-the-art learning environment. The success of SCC is rooted in the mission of serving the community by "focusing on academic excellence, student success, workforce advancement, and life-long learning within a global society." St Charles Community College seeks a full time Dean of Business, Technology, and Performing Arts to provide strategic, academic, and operational leadership for programs in business, technology, applied technology, digital / creative arts, and performing arts. The Dean oversees curriculum, assessment, scheduling, staffing, budgeting, program development, and continuous improvement to support student success, workforce readiness, transfer opportunities, and institutional priorities. The Dean will be expected to lead with innovation and vision, supporting programs that prepare students for a rapidly changing workforce shaped by artificial intelligence, automation, virtual and augmented reality, immersive learning environments, digital design, cybersecurity, data analytics, entrepreneurship, and emerging creative technologies. The Dean will also champion the intersection of technology and creativity, supporting programs where artistic practice, digital production, entrepreneurship, and emerging tools converge to prepare students for careers in the ever-evolving creative economy and workforce. The Dean will work collaboratively across the College to expand academic pathways, strengthen transfer and career opportunities, and promote excellence in teaching, learning, and student achievement. This position leads innovation across the division by supporting emerging technologies, interdisciplinary learning, creative production, workforce partnerships, and academic pathways that prepare students for evolving careers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership for divisional programs, operations, budgets, staffing, scheduling, assessment, and long-range planning. Ensure academic quality, student success, workforce alignment, and continuous program improvement. Lead curriculum development, program review, assessment of student learning, and data-informed decision-making. Support faculty and staff through hiring, evaluation, professional development, assignment, and performance management. Advance innovative instructional practices and delivery formats, including online, hybrid, evening, weekend, dual credit, dual enrollment, and accelerated learning. Provides leadership for immersive and experiential learning opportunities, including virtual environments, creative production spaces, technology labs, maker spaces, studios, performance spaces, and other specialized instructional environments. Leads division-wide efforts to thoughtfully and responsibly integrate artificial intelligence and emerging technologies into curriculum, assignments, classroom practices, student projects, creative production, and workforce preparation, ensuring faculty are supported and students are prepared for AI-augmented careers. Support the integration of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, immersive learning, simulation, digital media, cybersecurity, data analytics, and creative technologies. Oversee instructional spaces, technology labs, studios, performance spaces, equipment, software, and other specialized learning environments. Develop and maintain partnerships with business and industry, K-12 schools, universities, community organizations, advisory committees, and workforce partners. Support credit and non-credit pathways, stackable credentials, transfer agreements, apprenticeships, credit for prior learning, and industry-recognized credentials. Assist with accreditation, grants, institutional reporting, compliance, and resource development. Leads and/or assists with reporting related to accreditation, grants, specialized program requirements, advisory committee recommendations, workforce initiatives, and institutional effectiveness. Identifies strategies for developing new programs and evaluating existing programs to ensure ongoing relevance, enrollment growth, student success, and alignment with regional workforce and transfer needs. Promote collaboration across business, technology, digital media, and performing arts disciplines. Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, creativity, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Supports the role of the performing arts, digital media, and creative disciplines as essential components of the College's academic, cultural, and community identity, while also advancing connections to emerging technologies and creative industry pathways. Represent the division on College committees, community initiatives, workforce groups, and external partnerships. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field related to business, technology, computer science, digital media, performing arts, leadership, or a related discipline. (An equivalent mix of executive-level education and deep industry experience will also be highly valued.) At least 5 years of professional experience driving success within business, technology, the performing arts, workforce training, or a related industry ecosystem. 5+ years of progressively responsible experience leading teams, managing complex operations, or steering organizational strategy. Proven experience overseeing budgets, managing project lifecycles or program development, scheduling resources, and supporting the professional growth of your team. A strong grasp of how modern and emerging technologies-such as AI, automation, VR/AR, cybersecurity, data analytics, and digital design-are reshaping workforce preparation, modern industries, and creative production.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
While a background in higher education or community colleges is preferred, we are highly interested in industry leaders who can translate their market expertise into an instructional environment. A proven track record of managing initiatives or departments focused on business, cybersecurity, tech infrastructure, digital media, engineering tech, or entrepreneurship. Experience building talent pipelines, workforce apprenticeships, industry advisory boards, or corporate training partnerships. Hands-on experience implementing cutting-edge tools (e.g., AI integration, virtual/augmented reality, 3D design, simulation, or digital fabrication) into team workflows, production environments, or training programs. Experience supporting or leading initiatives in audio production, game design, interactive media, esports, sound design, or creative entrepreneurship. Comfort with AI-assisted creative tools, including generative design, AI-supported media tools, or advanced digital storytelling platforms. Experience navigating structured compliance, corporate/government grants, or managing specialized project-level funding. A knack for breaking down silos and designing cross-functional projects that blend technical skills, artistic practice, and business acumen.
