General Definition of Work
The dean of instruction, under moderate supervision, performs intermediate level work. Acts as an instructional and administrative leader who bridges the gap between the principal and the teaching staff. They primarily focus on driving the school's academic vision, coaching teachers to improve pedagogy, and analyzing student data to ensure rigorous, standards-aligned instruction. Employee performs complex work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the building level principal. Qualifications

Essential Functions
Instructional Leadership
Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of instructional programs aligned to North Carolina Standards and CMS frameworks.
Support teachers through instructional coaching, feedback cycles, and professional learning communities (PLCs).
Facilitate professional development that enhances culturally responsive, evidence-based, and immersion-specific instructional practices.
Model effective teaching strategies and assist teachers with lesson design, differentiation, and classroom management aligned with PBIS expectations.
Curriculum and Assessment
Ensure fidelity of implementation for CMS curriculum
Coordinate the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment across grade levels and language programs.
Lead data analysis meetings to identify trends, strengths, and areas for growth to inform instructional decision-making.
Support benchmark, formative, and summative assessment systems including EOG/EOC, i-Ready, and district diagnostics.
Teacher Development and Evaluation
Conduct classroom walkthroughs in collaboration with the Principal.
Provide targeted coaching and follow-up support aligned with teacher growth and evaluation plans.
Identify and mentor emerging teacher leaders to build instructional capacity schoolwide.
Support induction and retention of teachers through intentional collaboration, feedback, and recognition systems.
School Improvement and Innovation
Serve as a core member of the School Leadership and School Improvement Teams.
Assist with development, implementation, and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan and academic SMART goals.
Collaborate with the Principal to design and evaluate intervention plans that improve academic outcomes for multilingual learners and historically marginalized student groups.
Build and sustain strong relationships among staff, students, and families to ensure a collaborative school community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of K-8 curriculum, instruction, and assessment strategies.
Strong understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy, equity-centered leadership, and inclusive practices.
Ability to analyze and interpret student performance data to guide instructional decisions.
Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop teachers through adult learning principles.
Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with instructional technology, CMS platforms (e.g., Infinite Campus, MasteryConnect, i-Ready), and data tools.
Capacity to balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a diverse school environment.

Teacher Certified Schedule/Full-time, 10 months

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required
Valid NC teaching license required
Minimum of three (3) years' experience in education or related area required
Equivalent combination of experience and education
Special Requirements
Possess and maintain a NC Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
