Our client is looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Director to join the leadership team at their premier preschool in Hackensack, NJ. The ideal candidate must have strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), a genuine love for children, and a strong commitment to education. This is a Direct Hire position with the school Monday-Friday; year-round employment As an Assistant Director - Curriculum Coordinator , you are responsible for ensuring the consistent execution, quality, and continuous improvement of the curriculum across all classrooms. This role works directly with teachers to elevate classroom performance, enhance child engagement, and maintain compliance with state licensing standards, while fostering a nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environment. Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Implementation & Oversight Ensure consistent and effective implementation of the Seedlings Early Childhood Education Curriculum across all classrooms Review and approve weekly lesson plans to ensure alignment with developmental goals Conduct routine classroom walkthroughs to assess engagement, structure, and curriculum delivery Ensure classrooms are prepared with appropriate materials, learning centers, and visual displays Maintain alignment with NJ licensing (DCF) requirements Maintain professional business attire Teacher Collaboration Partner with teachers to co-plan lessons, activities, and classroom strategies Lead weekly or bi-weekly curriculum planning meetings with teaching staff Encourage idea-sharing and best practices across classrooms Support cross-classroom consistency while allowing for teacher creativity within the curriculum framework Act as a resource for teachers needing support with lesson planning or classroom challenges Teacher Coaching & Development Provide ongoing coaching to teachers through structured observation and feedback cycles Develop individualized coaching plans based on classroom performance and teacher needs Support onboarding and training of new teachers on curriculum and classroom expectations Model best practices through in-class demonstrations when needed Lead professional development sessions focused on curriculum delivery, classroom management, and engagement Documentation of observations to be completed on 1Place Coaching Structure:
Observations & Time Allocation Conduct formal classroom observations at minimum 2 times per teacher per month Minimum 3 observations to be completed per week Complete weekly informal walkthroughs across all classrooms Schedule dedicated coaching sessions (45-60 minutes) with each teacher at least biweekly Provide real-time feedback during classroom support and follow up with documented action steps Maintain organized records of observations, feedback, and teacher progress Quality Assurance & Compliance Ensure classrooms consistently meet brand standards Monitor classroom environments for safety, organization, and educational quality Support center readiness for licensing visits and internal audits Maintain documentation related to curriculum, classroom observations, and staff development Child Outcomes & Assessment Oversee developmental progress tracking for all children Partner with teachers to identify and address learning gaps Support individualized approaches to meet children's developmental needs Family Engagement & Communication Support leadership in communicating curriculum goals and classroom experiences to families Assist with parent-teacher conferences as needed Ensure classroom activities and milestones are accurately reflected in parent communication tools (e.g., Lineleader, WatchMeGrow) Collaboration & Leadership Work closely with the Center Director to align curriculum with overall center goals Act as a role model for professionalism, accountability, and classroom excellence Step into classrooms as needed to support ratio, transitions, or staffing needs QualificationsREQUIRED
Education:
A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education or related fieldREQUIRED
Leadership Experience:
At least 5-years of continuous experience as a Director or Assistant Director in a licensed childcare center/preschoolREQUIRED
Teaching Experience:
At least 2-years of Early Childhood Education (birth to 5-years-old) teaching experience in a licensed Early Childhood Education facility Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations - for Infant and Young Toddler Teachers, must be able to properly lift infants into and out of a crib Must meet background check eligibilityNote:
