The Director of Education will report to the Senior Vice President of Education and be responsible for supervising staff, providing team leadership, overseeing policy implementation, and ensuring safety protocols. This role requires a dedicated individual with a passion for special education, strong organizational skills, and the ability to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position:
Personnel Management Supervision of teachers, assistant teachers, and teacher aides Evaluate work performance standards of classroom staff during probationary period and at least once yearly thereafter Provide written notification of formal evaluation/observation at least 24 hours in advance Conduct a feedback meeting and provide a written evaluation, to be signed by the employee, within an appropriate time frame of the observation. Monitor instructional staff daily, including attendance, class schedule and plans. Participate in the planning and implementation of staff development and training. Participate in staff, team and administrative team meetings Interview and recommend staff for hiring to the Senior Vice President of Education. Meet with Senior Vice President at a minimum weekly Service Programming Ensure that curriculum is developmentally appropriate. Ensure that curriculum meets the individual needs of the children. Provide classroom consultation regarding behavior management procedures. Ensure that all classrooms are implementing PBIS, creative curriculum and TSG Parent Involvement Monitor and encourage parent involvement through parent meetings, parent education and fundraising to the fullest extent possible. Ensure consistent contact between families and school, through monitoring communication notebooks. Maintenance & Security of Building, Equipment and Supplies Monitor building daily to ensure safety, cleanliness and attractiveness. Report any problems to Senior Vice President of Education/or Maintenance Supervisor. Ensure that classrooms have the necessary supplies and equipment to provide for the child's educational needs. Public Relations and Outreach Be involved in outreach efforts to ensure full enrollment Conduct tours of the school with prospective families. Provide presentations and/or visits to community groups to educate the public about the school. Classroom Instruction Assume responsibility for instructing a classroom as needed Master's degree in education or related field as defined by Article 47 required Advanced Credentials in School Building Leadership (Advanced Certificate in SAS or SBL) required Experience in Preschool Special Education Setting, minimum 2 years classroom teaching experience with children under 6 years New York State Certified Early Childhood Teacher or related field as defined by Article 47 required Benefits At HeartShare we offer a comprehensive benefit package based on full-time/part-time status.
