July 1, 2026 (or earlier if available) About Harbor Country Day School Harbor Country Day School is an independent, coeducational day school for students in preschool through grade 8, located on the North Shore of Long Island in St. James, New York. Grounded in the motto "Sine Labore Nihil" (Nothing Without Work) , we inspire students to achieve personal excellence in academics, character, and creativity in a nurturing and supportive environment. Position Overview Harbor Country Day School seeks a Director of Innovation and STEAM Education to lead the development, integration, and advancement of a dynamic STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) program across all grade levels. The position plays a key leadership role in shaping the school's future-focused curriculum, supporting faculty professional growth, and fostering a culture of inquiry, creativity, and innovation throughout the community. The role reports to the Director of Technology and supports the technology curriculum.Key Responsibilities Curriculum Leadership :
Design and implement a cohesive, project-based STEAM curriculum across all grade levels (Preschool-8th). Collaborate with faculty to integrate STEAM concepts into core academic disciplines and classroom projects. Stay informed about educational trends and emerging technologies to keep the program at the forefront.Innovation and Technology Integration :
Oversee the effective use of educational technology tools and platforms.Lead professional development in instructional technology and innovation-based teaching methods. Partner with faculty to promote learning experiences using robotics, coding, maker spaces, and design thinking with a focus on empathetic need-finding.
Instructional Role :
Teach STEAM-related classes, clubs, or electives, especially in upper elementary and middle school grades. Willing to teach math and science classes as needed Guide students in hands-on projects, collaborative learning, and real-world problem solving in which issues are generated by students' interests. Foster interest in and develop a FLL Robotics Club with elements of competition.Leadership and Collaboration :
Serve as a resource and coach for faculty to enhance cross-disciplinary instruction. Collaborate with school leadership on strategic planning, innovation initiatives, and external partnerships. Manage and maintain STEAM lab spaces, equipment, and budgets. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in STEAM education, innovation, or technology integration. Proven experience designing and delivering engaging, hands-on learning experiences for elementary and/or middle school students. Strong knowledge of design thinking, project-based learning, and emerging educational technologies. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
