Description:
Provides leadership for grades PreK-5 instructional programs to ensure high-quality teaching and learning experiences that promote academic achievement and student growth. Leads district initiatives related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, early literacy, intervention services, professional learning, educational technology, and continuous improvement. Collaborates with elementary principals, teachers, families, and community partners to create equitable learning opportunities and support the district's mission and strategic goals.

Essential Functions:

- Provide leadership for elementary curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention programs.
- Support implementation of district strategic goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with elementary principals to strengthen instructional practices and student outcomes.
- Utilize data to identify needs, monitor progress, and drive improvement efforts.
- Promote equitable access to high-quality educational experiences for all students. Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
- Lead development, alignment, implementation, and evaluation of elementary curriculum.
- Ensure instructional programs align with Ohio Learning Standards and evidence-based practices.
- Support implementation of high-quality instructional materials and resources.
- Coordinate district assessment systems and data analysis processes.
- Promote instructional practices that support literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, and student engagement.
- Support effective integration of technology and emerging educational innovations, including responsible AI applications. Early Learning, Literacy, and Intervention
- Lead district initiatives related to early literacy and foundational learning skills.
- Oversee intervention systems and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
- Monitor student progress and collaborate with school teams to address learning gaps.
- Support gifted services, enrichment opportunities, and specialized instructional programs.
- Ensure effective implementation of reading improvement and student achievement plans. Professional Learning and Staff Development
- Design and facilitate professional learning opportunities for teachers, instructional staff, and administrators.
- Support instructional coaching and collaborative learning structures.
- Develop leadership capacity among instructional staff.
- Support implementation and monitoring of professional learning communities (PLCs)/teacher-based teams (TBTs).
- Promote continuous professional growth aligned with district instructional priorities. Compliance and Program Management
- Ensure compliance with state and federal educational requirements.
- Coordinate testing and assessment activities as assigned.
- Oversee assigned grants and educational programs.
- Manage departmental budgets and resources.
- Prepare required reports and documentation. Communication and Collaboration
- Build strong partnerships with families, community organizations, and educational agencies.
- Serve as a liaison between schools and district stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, personnel, and district information.
- Represent the district in professional organizations and educational partnerships. Additional Responsibilities
- Demonstrate ethical leadership and professionalism.
- Support district-wide initiatives and special projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. Qualifications
- Master's degree required; educational specialist or doctoral degree preferred.
- Valid Ohio administrative licensure.
- Minimum of five years successful teaching experience.
- Successful administrative leadership experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning.
- Experience leading school improvement initiatives.
- Valid driver's license. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The Garfield Heights City Schools collaboratively and cooperatively serve students and families of the City of Garfield Heights. Located in Cuyahoga County and bordered on the north by the City of Cleveland proper, and on all other sides by the first ring communities of Northeast Ohio. The Garfield Heights City School prides itself on providing a rigorous and comprehensive pre-k through 12th-grade educational curriculum that clearly focuses on student success through college and career readiness. To that end, Garfield Heights High School offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses, including AP English, AP Government, AP American History, Honors Chemistry, Honors Calculus, Honors Physical Science, and more. While the District offers these high-level academic courses, the GHCS also proudly sends more than 225 students on an annual basis to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for those individuals deeply interested in learning a skilled profession or hands-on expertise in one of the trades. Middle School students have increasingly greater opportunities to prepare themselves for high school and parents are readily encouraged to be involved. Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior.
A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district's show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A ?Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels.
