La Salle Academy is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school, sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the De La Salle Christian Brothers) offering a comprehensive curriculum. Founded in 1871 and located in the heart of Providence, La Salle Academy serves a student body of 1560 students in grades 6 through 12. La Salle Academy has as its mission the education of young men and women of diverse backgrounds, with a special concern for the working class and the poor, in the tradition of St. John Baptist De La Salle's ideals of faith, service, and community. La Salle Academy is seeking a dynamic and well-rounded special educator to join our student services team. The Director of Learning Accommodations is responsible for supporting the academic success of students with documented learning needs. This individual ensures that all students have equitable access to the school's rigorous curriculum by developing, implementing, and monitoring learning accommodations in collaboration with teachers, families and administrators. The Director also serves as a liaison between the school and external professionals, manages accommodation data systems, and supports student transitions, including re-entry after extended absences.
Responsibilities:
Student Support & Learning Plans Develop, write, and maintain individualized Learning Accommodation Plans based on documentation and student needs. Coordinate the annual review and update of accommodation plans in consultation with teachers, counselors, and parents. Meet individually with students to explain accommodations and support self-advocacy skills. Faculty Collaboration Partner with teachers to ensure accommodations are effectively implemented in classrooms and assessments. Provide professional development and ongoing guidance to faculty on differentiated instruction, universal design for learning (UDL), and best practices for supporting diverse learners. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of accommodations across departments. Admissions & Transition Support Collaborate with the Admissions Office to review applicant documentation and advise families on available academic supports. Serve as the primary re-entry point of contact for students returning from medical, mental health, or other extended absences, coordinating academic reintegration plans with the Student Support Team. Data & Systems Management Manage and maintain all student accommodation records and updates in Blackbaud. Ensure data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable privacy standards. Produce reports and summaries for administrative purposes. Family & External Communication Communicate regularly with families to discuss student progress and ensure continuity of support. Collaborate with outside professionals (e.g., educational psychologists, tutors, therapists) to interpret evaluations and inform appropriate accommodations. Schoolwide Leadership Contribute to the school's mission by fostering an inclusive learning environment grounded in the Lasallian values of respect, community, and faith. Serve on student support, academic, and wellness committees as needed. Stay current on educational research, legal requirements, and best practices in learning accommodations.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education, Special Education, School Psychology, or a related field (required). Minimum of 5 years of experience in academic support, learning services, or special education. Strong knowledge of neurodiversity, learning differences, and evidence-based intervention strategies. Excellent communication, organizational, and data management skills. Familiarity with Blackbaud, Google Workspace, and related student information systems preferred.
