Job Description:
Job Purpose:
Christian Brothers University is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader in the area of student academic support and retention to serve as its Associate Director of Academic Support. This pivotal role will oversee key programs, including Accommodations, First Year Experience, Peer Tutors, Peer Mentors, and First Gen Experience. The Associate Director will play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student success and retention. The Associate Director of Academic Support reports to the Director of Academic Support and will collaborate with the Assistant Director of Academic Support Duties and Responsibilities The Associate Director of Academic Support will be expected to coordinate the following:
Accommodations:
Oversee the provision of academic accommodations for students with disabilities. Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including ADA and Section 504. Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement appropriate accommodations and support services. Oversee CBU's Testing Services for accommodations
First Year Experience:
Develop and manage programs aimed at supporting first-year students' transition to university life. Will serve as a liaison between the Office of Academic Support and Admissions. Coordinate orientation activities, workshops, and seminars to enhance student engagement and success. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of first-year programs and initiatives. Collaborate with CBU's Student Affairs to support the planning and execution of New Student Orientation (NSO)
Peer Tutors:
Recruit, train, and supervise peer tutors to assist students in a variety of academic subjects. Develop tutoring schedules and match tutors with students in need of academic support. Evaluate the performance and effectiveness of tutoring services through feedback and assessment.
Peer Mentors:
Manage a peer mentoring program to support student development and academic success. Train peer mentors on effective mentoring strategies, leadership skills, and university resources. Monitor mentor-mentee relationships and provide ongoing support and guidance. Collaborate with CBU 101 lead instructor to allow Peer Mentors to support the curriculum. Facilitate the First-Year Leadership Badge course developed for incoming freshmen in collaboration with Career Services.
First Gen Experience:
Lead a cross-departmental team to create and implement programs specifically designed to support first-generation college students. Provide resources, workshops, and one-on-one support to address the unique challenges faced by first-gen students. Track the progress and success of first-gen students, adjusting programs as necessary to meet their needs.
Requirements:
Required:
Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs or related field. Three to five years of experience in academic support or student services, preferably in a higher education setting. Strong understanding of the needs and challenges faced by diverse student populations, including students with disabilities, first-year students, and first-generation college students. Outstanding writing and communications skills Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and assess programs and initiatives. Familiarity with database tools and the use and design of spreadsheet applications. Budgeting and budget management experience. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with various stakeholders, preferably in a higher ed setting.
Preferred:
CBU is especially interested in candidates with management and academic services/student success experience, particularly in supervising/coordinating academic advising and first-year experience programs. Student retention program experience. Faculty and staff training experience. Familiarity and experience with the implementation and application of retention and predictive analytics software tools is strongly preferred, especially Slate (Admissions and/or Success) or similar CRMs. Experience with Ellucian Banner and DegreeWorks.
