POSITION SUMMARY
High school theater teachers develop and deliver curriculum in acting, technical theater, and theater history while directing school productions. Key responsibilities include instructing diverse students, managing after-school rehearsals, designing sets/costumes, organizing auditions, and fostering a safe, collaborative environment that promotes confidence, creativity, and performance skills.[The classroom teacher performs under supervision of a principal or other designated supervisor and has major responsibility for the instruction and supervision of students. Instruction of students includes individual skill development, expansion of knowledge, and development of ability to reason. Supervision of students includes guidance, development, and safety. The classroom teacher functions in accordance with the established policies, rules, regulations and the performance standards of the District/State and the performance goals established for the teacher.]
DUTIES:
Design and implement engaging theater arts curriculum (acting, directing, stagecraft, theater history, script analysis).
Production Management:
Direct and produce school plays, musicals, and showcases, including scheduling rehearsals and conducting auditions. Directing theater productions which include a fall play, school musical and two other spring shows; Includes coordination and support of school Thespian Troupe and attendance at Thespian Conference;
Technical Supervision:
Oversee set design, lighting, sound, props, and costumes, ensuring safety in the theater space.
Community Engagement:
Organize public performances and engage with the community to support the arts program.
Mentorship:
Guide students in character development, monologues, and technical roles. Report to activities director and work closely with band instructor and choir instructor
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Successful applicants must be properly licensed for assignment as a Professional Educator according to the Colorado Department of Education.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in English, Theater, Drama, or Education; valid state teaching certification.
Experience:
Proven experience in directing, acting, or technical theater, preferably with youth.
Attributes:
Strong leadership, patience, creativity, and communication skills.
Technical Proficiency:
Knowledge of lighting/sound systems, set construction, and theater safety standards.
STARTING SALARY RANGE
: ( Annual salary schedule based on 1.0 FTE )

: 187 contract days ( district educator calendar )

While you may look up your estimated salary on the linked salary schedule, updates for the 2026-2027 school year are contingent upon negotiated increases that are approved by the LPS Board of Education in the summer season. Additionally, know that these salary values are based on a 1.0 FTE working 187 contract days.
