Dance & Theater Teacher About Intellectus Preparatory Charter School Intellectus Preparatory Charter School (IPCS) is a growing 6-12 charter school committed to providing scholars with a rigorous academic education while developing their creativity, confidence, and leadership skills. Our scholars engage in meaningful artistic experiences that promote self-expression, collaboration, and performance excellence. Position Summary Intellectus Preparatory Charter School seeks a passionate and skilled Dance & Theater Teacher to lead a dynamic performing arts program for middle and high school scholars. The ideal candidate will inspire students through instruction in dance, theater, performance, movement, and stagecraft while cultivating a classroom culture that emphasizes creativity, discipline, and artistic growth. The Dance & Theater Teacher will be responsible for developing engaging lessons, directing student performances, and creating opportunities for scholars to showcase their talents through school productions, showcases, and community events. Essential ResponsibilitiesInstructional Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging standards-aligned lessons in dance, theater, and performing arts. Teach foundational and advanced concepts in movement, performance, acting, stage presence, choreography, and theatrical production. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support artistic development. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance. Performance & Production Responsibilities Direct and coordinate student performances, showcases, concerts, and theatrical productions. Develop choreography and performance pieces appropriate for middle and high school students. Support students in preparing for auditions, performances, and public presentations. Collaborate with staff and community partners to enhance arts programming. School Culture Responsibilities Establish a structured, positive, and inclusive learning environment. Foster student confidence, creativity, teamwork, and professionalism. Participate in school events, family engagement activities, professional development, and faculty meetings. Serve as an active member of the school community and contribute to the overall success of scholars. QualificationsRequired Qualifications Master's Degree in Dance, Theater, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, or a closely related field. Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching dance and/or theater at the middle school or high school level. Demonstrated ability to direct performances and manage productions involving students. Strong classroom management and instructional skills. Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills. Commitment to educational equity and high expectations for all students. Preferred Qualifications New York State Teaching Certification in Dance, Theatre, Performing Arts, or a related area. Experience working in urban schools and with diverse student populations. Experience producing large-scale school performances or musicals. Knowledge of culturally responsive arts education practices. Physical Requirements Ability to demonstrate dance movements and theatrical techniques. Ability to stand, move, and actively engage with students throughout the school day. Ability to lift and move basic performance or classroom equipment as needed. Compensation & Benefits Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
