Arena Training Center is seeking an engaging, experienced instructor to lead our women's self-defense program. We want someone who makes beginners feel welcome, teaches with clarity, and helps participants leave feeling more capable. Our community values respect, inclusion, and personal growth. This program combines physical skills with awareness, assertive communication, boundaries, and strategies for getting to safety. What you'll do Design and teach progressive classes and introductory workshops for women with varied fitness levels and experience. Teach situational awareness, verbal de-escalation, boundary setting, escape strategies, and practical physical defense skills. Lead controlled drills covering strikes, releases from common grabs, balance, and getting up safely. Adapt instruction for different ages, mobility needs, and comfort levels, including women 35+. Obtain consent before physical contact and offer alternatives to partner drills. Create a supportive environment without fear-based messaging, victim blaming, or promises of guaranteed safety. Coordinate with Arena's manager on scheduling, equipment, attendance, and participant feedback. Help grow the program through introductory events, community partnerships, and occasional promotional content. What we're looking for Demonstrated experience teaching self-defense, martial arts, or a closely related discipline. Experience coaching women and beginners in group settings. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain techniques clearly and patiently. A practical approach that prioritizes judgment, escape, and safety. Understanding of trauma-informed coaching, professional boundaries, and respectful physical instruction. Reliability, sound judgment, and a collaborative attitude. Current CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain it before teaching. Especially valuable Women's self-defense instructor training or certification. Experience in boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, or another relevant discipline. Experience adapting instruction for women returning to exercise or managing physical limitations. A warm, engaging teaching style that encourages participants to return and bring friends. Experience building classes, leading workshops, or developing community partnerships. Applicants of all genders are welcome. Experience teaching women effectively and respectfully is essential.
