Our mission is to empower youth with free, trauma-informed self-defense training. Our niche is in providing free personal safety training to PE classes that go off campus and we currently partner with Rocky, Fossil Ridge, Poudre and Timnath Middle-High. We additionally provide community trainings open to the public about once a month on a Saturday or Sunday. Our work is both engaging and rewarding. Duties:

• KickStart Self-Defense is seeking a PT self-defense instructor. This is physical work so a certain level of athleticism is required. A background in martial arts, law enforcement or military, i.e. self-defense, hand-to-hand combat or weapons disarmament is preferred but not required.
• Provide self-defense instruction to students (youth and adults). We typically rent a taekwondo facility but have also hosted trainings in parks when weather allows.
• Create a safe, encouraging and inclusive environment for students to learn.
• Represent KickStart with professionalism and sensitivity to those who may have experienced sexual or physical assault.
• Demonstrate a strong knowledge of self-defense techniques.

Provide feedback to students and respond knowledgeably to questions.

Desired Skills:

• Strong knowledge desired in one or more of the following areas: martial arts, law enforcement, or hand-to-hand combat/weapons disarmament.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents/guardians, staff and clients.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to respond to questions and to meet the needs of individual students.
• Patience and empathy in working with students with no prior knowledge of self-defense techniques.
