Certification Driver's License Driving Instructor-led training (training delivery method) Equipment maintenance Instructional materials development Senior level Classroom Teaching Adult learning Patient emergency assistance Adult education Full Job Description This position is located in the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department Training Academy. The EMS Paramedic Instructor is primarily responsible for instructing courses for continuing education which include NAEMT, American Heart Association, and other courses specified by the EMS Supervisory Training Administrator and DFC of Training for members and other DC and federal agencies. The primary purpose of the position is to serve as an instructor for paramedic recertification and certification courses for EMT and Paramedic Programs for members and other DC and federal agencies. Under the direction of operations, provide basic and paramedic care to the sick and injured in the pre-hospital environment. Duties and Responsibilities Instructs DC Department of Health EMS protocol classes. Receives recommendations and constructive criticism from managerial and supervisory personnel regarding modifications to existing training courses, implementation of new training course materials, training needs, and objectives. Demonstrates and evaluates skills sessions and practical skills testing. Maintains and keeps in excellent working order all training and EMS operations and testing and•practical equipment and report all deficiencies to the EMS Training Supervisory Administrator. Identifies and provides a list of the current editions of textbooks, workbooks, training aids, and other related material germane to instruction and resources for the members and the EMS training staff. Participates in course improvements and maintenance by adjusting or supplementing prescribed course materials and recommend modifications in order to update and improve various aspects of the courses taught. Conducts fomial classroom training within and outside the DC Fire and EMS Department's Training Academy facilities. Provides instruction in DC Fire and EMS Department's departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures and new EMS skills, knowledge and standards.Qualifications and Education Undergraduate and Graduate Education :
Major study - education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. or Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. License and Certification Must possess and maintain ACLS and CPR Certified as an American Heart Association Instructor. Should possess and maintain Advanced Medical Life Support, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support, Emergency Pediatric Care or Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Attains and maintains a DC DOH paramedic provider and ALS instructor's card within 3 months. Attains and maintainsPHLS AND AMLS
Instructor certification within 1 year. Attains Fire Service Instructor I and II certification within 1 year. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times. Working Condition/Environment Work is performed in an office and/or classroom setting that is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Normal safety precautions are required.Other Significant Facts Tour of Duty:
