Schedule:
The instructor teaches approximately 30 hours per week during scheduled program offerings, typically 24-30 weeks annually, while maintaining compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and program standards.
Summary:
The CDL Instructor provides classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel training to students pursuing a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction that prepares students to meet licensing requirements and enter the commercial transportation workforce safely and successfully.
Job Duties:
Serve as a CDL instructor, providing classroom, range and behind-the-wheel instruction in alignment with Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) standards. Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, safety standards, and licensing requirements. Ensure compliance with Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations. Assist with recordkeeping for CDL courses. Assist in efforts to promote transportation programs and recruit students. Maintain accurate inventories of equipment and supplies. Promptly report on needed repairs for labs, classrooms, and equipment. Stay current with industry and educational trends, integrating updates into curriculum, and instructional practices to ensure program relevance and excellence. Supports the overall success of the District. Meet all assigned classes and office commitments as scheduled. Maintain regular and consistent attendance for scheduled work times. Maintain professional appearance of office and laboratory areas. Must be willing to flex schedule as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent, Commercial CDL Class A with endorsements is a plus, 3-5 years of recent driving experience. An acceptable driving record with manual transmission experience and proficient backing ability.
Abilities:
Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and Department of Transportation rules and regulations.
