Hiring Bonus:
$3,000 Join Our Team Join Idaho CDL Training, a family-owned CDL training provider dedicated to preparing safe, skilled, and professional commercial drivers. We are a student-focused, team-driven organization committed to creating a safe, respectful environment where people are given the opportunity and support to succeed. We hold ourselves accountable to high standards while recognizing that students and employees learn, communicate, and develop in different ways. Our team is built around patience, professionalism, collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and the belief that our success is measured by the people we help develop. We are looking for an experienced Class A CDL driver who is ready to use their knowledge and experience to help develop the next generation of professional drivers. Previous teaching or instructor experience is not required. No Instructor Experience Required You know how to drive a Class A commercial vehicle. We can help teach you how to become an effective instructor. Qualified candidates must have professional Class A CDL driving experience and the ability to communicate effectively, work patiently with adult learners, and consistently maintain safe training practices. New employees receive paid, job-specific instructor training as part of their employment. This training covers our instructional methods, training standards, safety expectations, student-development approach, and the tools needed to successfully transition from professional driver to professional instructor. Experience teaching, training, coaching, mentoring, or supervising others is preferred, but not required. Why This Role Matters Our instructors play a direct role in helping students develop the skills, confidence, safety habits, and professional standards needed to earn their Class A CDL and begin successful careers in the transportation industry. This is not a management position, but it does require strong self-leadership. Instructors are expected to lead by example, communicate clearly, collaborate with their peers, adapt to changing needs, and consistently put student success and safety first. Our instructors are home daily and have the opportunity to see the direct impact their work has on the students they train. What You'll Do As a Class A CDL Instructor, you will: Deliver hands-on Class A CDL training, including pre-trip inspections, basic vehicle control skills, backing, and road instruction. Train students in a variety of environments, including city and highway driving, day and evening conditions, and varying weather conditions. Provide instruction using both manual and automatic transmission vehicles. Demonstrate and reinforce safe vehicle operation, professional driving habits, and sound decision-making. Work with adult learners who may have different experience levels, learning styles, communication styles, and abilities. Explain and demonstrate skills in different ways when necessary to help students understand and progress. Provide clear, respectful, and constructive feedback to students. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while developing positive working relationships with students. Work collaboratively with other instructors and leadership to provide a consistent training experience. Support customized training for business and fleet clients when needed. Assist with the care, cleanliness, inspection, and general upkeep of training vehicles and equipment. Complete required student records, training documentation, and other assigned documentation accurately and on time. Attend periodic instructor training and professional-development activities. Participate in company initiatives and continuous improvement efforts designed to strengthen our training programs, student experience, and team. Adapt to changing student, scheduling, equipment, and operational needs. Occasionally support training at our Boise campus based on operational needs. What Success Looks Like Successful instructors typically demonstrate: Patience when working with adult learners. Clear, professional, and respectful communication. The ability to explain or demonstrate a skill in different ways when a student does not understand it the first time. Strong safety awareness and sound professional judgment. Dependability, accountability, and professionalism. The ability to work effectively as part of an instructional team. A willingness to receive feedback, apply it, and continue improving. Strong organization and accurate documentation. Flexibility as student, scheduling, and operational needs change. The ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries while building positive relationships with students. A willingness to help where needed and contribute to the overall success of the team. A positive, student-focused approach while maintaining clear expectations and high standards. Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates must have: A current, unrestricted Class A CDL . At least three years of verifiable Class A CDL driving experience within the past 10 years . A clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). A current DOT medical card or the ability to obtain one before employment and maintain it throughout employment. The ability to successfully complete required background screening and DOT drug testing upon hire and as required throughout employment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work patiently and professionally with adult learners. Reliable transportation and the ability to consistently report to the Meridian training location as scheduled. Supervising or leading others. Working with adult learners. Safety training. Driver development. Operating both manual and automatic transmission commercial vehicles. Customer service or other people-focused professional roles. Our instructor training program is designed to help experienced professional drivers develop the additional skills needed to effectively train others. Physical & Work Environment Expectations This is an active, hands-on position , not a traditional classroom teaching role. Instructors spend significant portions of the workday outdoors and on their feet while demonstrating skills, observing students, and working around Class A commercial vehicles and training equipment.
Candidates must be comfortable:
Working outdoors year-round in varying Idaho weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Standing and walking for extended periods, including shifts that may last 12 hours or longer. Frequently entering and exiting commercial vehicles. Bending, reaching, and moving around training equipment. Working around operating Class A vehicles and heavy equipment. Demonstrating vehicle inspections and driving skills. Performing physical tasks associated with hands-on CDL training, including light maintenance, cleaning, and equipment care. Safety awareness is essential at all times. Schedule & Availability Idaho CDL Training operates seven days a week. This position requires a schedule that primarily includes weekends and most holidays. Candidates should expect to work weekends with very few exceptions. Most holidays are required, with typical exceptions including Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and Independence Day . This is a full-time position. A 40+ hour workweek should be expected based on student and operational needs. Overtime opportunities are available. Instructors may occasionally be scheduled at our Boise campus to support training needs and maintain full-time hours. Specific schedules and availability expectations will be discussed during the interview process. Because our students depend on consistent training and scheduled instructor coverage, dependability and reliable attendance are essential responsibilities of this position. Growth & Development Idaho CDL Training is a growing organization, and we believe in developing our employees as well as our students. This full-time instructor position provides opportunities for continued professional development and advancement for employees who consistently demonstrate strong performance, leadership, reliability, professionalism, and commitment to our standards. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the Meridian training site. This is a home-daily position with no over-the-road travel required as part of the regular instructor schedule. Occasional assignments at our Boise campus may be required based on training and operational needs. Ready to Help Develop the Next Generation? If you are an experienced Class A CDL driver who takes pride in doing things safely, enjoys helping others succeed, works well as part of a team, and is willing to learn how to become an effective instructor, we encourage you to apply.
