In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles—including vans and transit buses—ensuring that clients arrive at and depart from our adult day programs comfortably and on time. Responsibilities Safely operate company vehicles, including vans, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, adhering to traffic laws and vehicle codes. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding, disembarking, and securement to ensure comfort and safety. Follow emergency response procedures during transportation incidents or accidents, including first aid and CPR when necessary. Maintain a quick response to traffic changes by adjusting routes efficiently while keeping passengers informed. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, report any issues promptly, and ensure compliance with transportation safety regulations. Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with clients, addressing their needs compassionately, and managing behavior when necessary. Ensure adherence to all state and local commercial driving laws, school policies (if applicable), and passenger safety protocols during daily operations. Qualifications Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport; experience in bus driving or transit bus operation is highly preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, defensive driving techniques, and emergency stop procedures. Experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities; familiarity with behavior management strategies is a plus. Ability to lift heavy objects safely; physical stamina for assisting passengers with mobility challenges. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are an advantage for serving diverse communities. Certification in first aid and CPR; knowledge of emergency response procedures for transportation is required. Experience working with children or in school bus driving is beneficial but not mandatory. Excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to respond quickly to traffic changes or unforeseen circumstances.
