A Driving Instructor is responsible for teaching students the rules of the road and the safe way to handle an automobile or motorcycle. This may involve both classroom and/or behind the wheel instruction. They are required to remain up to date with their regional and national traffic laws to insure proper curriculum and demonstration. Some inform their students on the process to obtain a valid driver's license in their region or nation.

The Driver Trainer is responsible for training, coaching, and evaluating new and existing drivers to ensure safe driving practices, compliance with company policies, and adherence to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations. Conduct behind-the-wheel training for new driver hires. Evaluate driver skills through road tests, ride-alongs and provide coaching to improve safety and performance. Coach drivers on safe driving techniques, defensive driving, fuel efficiency, and customer service. Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety regulations. Perform road tests, driver observations, and follow-up evaluations. Maintain accurate training records and documentation. Deliver ongoing safety meetings and refresher training. Certified Driver Trainer or equivalent certification preferred. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; additional transportation or safety certifications are preferred.
