An Economics Professor teaches foundational economics ideas, truths, and methods to students through a combination of classroom instruction and assignments at colleges, trade schools or other institutes. May assist or lead in the creation of the economics curriculum to be taught. In addition to instruction, they may assist or lead in research initiatives relating to their field.
Continuous Description New College of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track position specializing in Financial Economics. We strongly prefer broadly trained candidates who are interested in teaching finance in a multidisciplinary, social sciences and pluralistic setting. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach a range of finance-related courses, including Investment Analysis, Corporate Finance, Fixed Income Analysis, and Introduction to Accounting and Finance, as well as additional electives in their area of expertise. Depending on our needs, we might also consider a second candidate who could teach Intermediate Microeconomics and Micro-econometrics, and potentially contribute to the financial economics program. The successful candidate will also oversee the Bloomberg Finance Lab, including management of the Bloomberg Terminal facility, integration of Bloomberg resources into the curriculum, and support for student training, research, and Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certification. We are open to applications from mid-career professionals from the financial industry who hold a suitable Ph. D. and are eager to transition to academia in a liberal arts college. Examples of Duties Teaching and Scholarship Expectations The teaching load is two courses per semester plus sponsoring tutorials and undergraduate theses or senior projects. In addition to classes, tutorials, theses (or senior projects), faculty members will supervise independent study projects. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a program of research by publishing in reputable peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. The economics program at New College does not count op-ed pieces as scholarship, but as services to the greater community. Qualifications Candidates must hold a Ph. D. in Economics or Financial Economics; or ABDs with dissertation defense plans before the starting date. Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
