Job Description

The Columbia University College of Dental Medicine is seeking an academic leader with deep expertise in the science and practice of Periodontology to join the College as the Director of the Division of Periodontics. The candidate will hold a full-time faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. The Division of Periodontics has a strong legacy of academic and research excellence, plays a critical role in preparing graduate students in Periodontics to practice and lead at the forefront of dental medicine, and now stands at a pivotal moment of renewal and growth.
The ideal candidate will:
Have the ability to define and implement strategic priorities and align divisional growth with institutional goals Be eligible for appointment as a tenured Associate or Full Professor at Columbia University Be a recognized leader in Periodontics with a strong record of scholarship, sustained extramural funding, and an established independent research program Have demonstrated success building impactful research programs, fostering collaborations across disciplines, and developing the partnerships necessary to sustain scientific innovation and extramurally funded research Have experience in predoctoral and postdoctoral education, including didactic and clinical teaching, curricular innovation, operational management, the recruitment, mentorship and sponsorship of outstanding trainees, and advancing the quality of patient care Have the ability to cultivate an environment of professional excellence that supports transparency, accountability, and faculty advancement Be active in national and international professional and scientific communities, with a track record of strengthening institutional reputation, visibility, and strategic partnerships Applicants must: Have a DDS, DMD, or equivalent degree in dentistry Have completed a CODA accredited, or equivalent, specialty training program in Periodontics Have a valid New York State dental license or be eligible for New York State dental licensure Preference will be given to applicants who: Have an advanced research degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent) Are board certified (by the American Board of Periodontology, or equivalent) Have at least five years of administrative and leadership experience in the Academy The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
