The elementary school assistant principal serves as an assistant to the principal and performs the duties of an educational leader as directed by the principal. The assistant principal is responsible for assisting with implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the District to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe, student-centered learning environment that meets and exceeds the ADE State Standards, following the approved curricula and directives of the District and the ADE. Achieving academic excellence requires that the assistant principal works collaboratively to lead and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for student supervision, planning, curriculum development, extracurricular activities, assisting with personnel management, emergency procedures, resource scheduling, and facilities operations.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare, maintain, or oversee the preparation and maintenance of attendance, activity, planning, or personnel reports and records. Assist the building principal and school staff with implementing the NLRSD Desegregation Plan. Confer with parents and staff to discuss educational activities, policies, and student behavioral or learning problems. Direct and coordinate school maintenance services and the use of school facilities. Organize and direct committees of specialists, volunteers, and staff to provide technical and advisory assistance for programs. Direct and coordinate activities of teachers, administrators, and support staff at schools, public agencies, and institutions. Evaluate curricula, teaching methods, and programs to ensure their effectiveness and compliance with regulations. Set educational standards and goals, and help establish policies and procedures to carry them out. Enforce discipline and attendance rules. Observe teaching methods and examine learning materials to standardize curricula and teaching techniques, and identify areas for improvement. Review and interpret government codes, and develop programs to ensure adherence to codes and facility safety, security, and maintenance. Determine allocations of funds for staff, supplies, materials, and equipment, and authorize purchases. Collaborate with teachers to develop and maintain curriculum standards, mission statements, and performance goals and objectives. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or the Director of Elementary Education.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Master's Degree in Education and a valid Arkansas Teacher's License #276 (Building Level Administration)Experience:
Have a minimum of four years of experience in teaching and working with adults or adolescents. A record of effective teaching and educational leadership, demonstrated a commitment to a positive learning environment, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to educational equity. Demonstrated skills and abilities in dealing with the diverse needs of students are highly desirable.SKILLS & ABILITIES

The work environment is generally an office environment but frequently includes meetings with students, parents, and others related to the school setting. Travel to other schools, districts, and out-of-area meetings and conferences is required. Time away from home is significant. The Assistant Principal is expected to meet the responsibilities of the regular school day and attend all assigned after-hour school and civic functions, including indoor and outdoor activities. Dealing with the public, meeting deadlines, and working under pressure are required to perform this job.
