Job Description

Job Title:
Assistant Principal Reports to: School Principal This is a year-round position. School size 350 to 450 students Mandatory participation in the Arizona State Retirement System. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­
OVERVIEW
The Assistant Principal assists the school principal in overall administration of the instructional program and campus level operations.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Principal, the position is responsible for assisting with instructional management, school climate, school improvement, personnel management, facilities management, student management, professional growth and development, and community relations.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
  • Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, demonstrating model lessons and providing instructional coaching as appropriate.
  • Participate in development of school improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Help principal develop and implement staff professional development based on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
  • Provide assessment development and data analysis support to teachers.
  • Serve as Professional Learning Community (PLC) facilitator.
  • Serve as member of the School Leadership Team.
  • Serve as member of the Academic Committee.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
  • Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
  • Supervise operations in principal's absence.
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Assist principal with consulting faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  • Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
  • Assist principal with ensuring that school rules are uniformly observed, and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Articulate the school's mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must have an education-field Master's Degree, a minimum of five years successful experience as a classroom teacher, and experience working with Title I students.
