After School Aide Oakland Military Institute, College Preparatory Academy - 4.1 Emeryville, CA Job Details Part-time | Contract $24.09 - $27.16 an hour 8 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications School experience CPR Certification Computer literacy First aid High school diploma or GED Working with children Full Job Description Under the supervision of the After-School and Community Engagement Manager, perform duties responsible for supervising and engaging with children in a safe and structured environment outside of regular school hours. Perform a wide variety of specialized work; work independently; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate. Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of students in the after-school program Lead and assist with homework help, activities, and projects Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff Create a fun and inclusive environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth Assist with snack time, outdoor play, and other program activities Communicate with parents and school staff about student needs and concerns Support students with homework completion and academic support Lead or assist with enrichment activities such as arts, crafts, sports, or clubs Attend appropriate staff meetings and in-service training. Prepare and maintain a variety of logs, records, Supervise and/or participate in bus loading, and unloading as needed. Work with individual students and/or groups of students Assist students, staff, and parents with communication problems resulting from limited knowledge of English. Perform related duties as assigned. The Oakland Military Institute - College Preparatory Academy (OMI) determines whether a candidate is qualified based on fulfillment of prerequisites, relevant work experience, ability to perform the essential functions, reference checks, effective interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated by interview performance and/or writing samples, and achievement on performance-based assessments (if applicable) that demonstrate the candidate possesses the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. Meeting the prerequisites only satisfies the initial screening process and does not indicate the candidate is qualified to perform the essential functions of the position.
Knowledge of:
Charter policies and procedures as they apply to this position. Operation of a variety of office machines used in a modern office environment. Record-keeping techniques. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Child growth and development principles. Ability to create a positive and inclusive environment Applicable sections of the state Education Code and other applicable laws. Socioeconomic and cultural background differences of the general school population. Technology including computers and computer programs.
Ability to:
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team Supervise activities of students to maintain order and work harmoniously with staff. Support the school/program in planning and implementation of the instructional program and related activities. Show care and concern for students in an educationally appropriate manner. Maintain appropriate confidentiality about the status of students and classroom activities. Participate in professional development activities, conferences, or formal classes related to assignments. Be creative and self-sufficient when assisting students with difficult concepts. Establish and maintain supportive cooperative relations with all school personnel, parents, and students. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be: One (1) year of experience in performing various duties in an educational environment is desirable. High school diploma or GED required; advanced education/coursework and/or training in the implementation of instructional methodologies, child development, student assessment, etc. is desirable. : First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) Consistent mental alertness; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 30 pounds, occasionally 30+ pounds; bending and twisting at the waist; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; dexterity of both hands and fingers while performing duties; seeing to read, write and use the computer; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone and to make presentations.
