Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) is seeking a collaborative, solutions-oriented leader to serve as Director II - Special Education Services . This classified management position plays a critical role in ensuring the District provides high-quality, compliant, and effective special education services. Reporting to the Executive Director of Special Education, this position serves as the operational leader of the Department and oversees compliance systems, transportation services, Extended School Year (ESY) operations, Nonpublic School (NPS) and Nonpublic Agency (NPA) placements and contracts, fiscal accountability, paraprofessional support systems, and assigned classified personnel. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a strategic and detail-oriented leader with demonstrated success managing complex programs, navigating regulatory requirements, and building collaborative relationships across departments and stakeholder groups.
Successful candidates will possess:
Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and compliance requirements. Experience managing operational functions, budgets, contracts, and service delivery systems. Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience supervising and developing staff. The ability to balance student needs, legal requirements, fiscal responsibility, and organizational priorities. A commitment to equity, inclusion, customer service, and continuous improvement. Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred. What You'll Do Lead operational and compliance functions of the Special Education Department. Ensure compliance with IDEA, California Education Code, SELPA requirements, and related laws and regulations. Oversee special education transportation services and related contracts. Direct Extended School Year (ESY) operational planning and implementation for the special education program. Administer Nonpublic School (NPS) and Nonpublic Agency (NPA) contracts, placements, and service agreements. Monitor budgets, expenditures, reimbursements, invoices, and fiscal accountability systems. Analyze operational and compliance data to support informed decision-making. Supervise and support classified personnel including technical and support staff. Collaborate with Human Resources, Business/Fiscal Services, Transportation, school administrators, and service providers to ensure effective service delivery. Develop and implement systems, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives that support student services and organizational effectiveness. Any other equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education that could likely provide the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, public administration, business administration, human services, finance, accounting, or a closely related field. Master's degree in education, public administration, business administration, or a related field is preferred. Experience Seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in special education administration, compliance, student services, program operations, transportation coordination, fiscal management, contract administration, or a related field, including experience working in a California public school district, county office of education, SELPA, or comparable educational agency. Three (3) to four (4) years of management or supervisory experience overseeing staff, budgets, operational systems, compliance functions, or complex programs.

EXAM PROCESS
For those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, the examination process will consist of scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application, training and experience evaluation, and oral panel interview. Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Additional information pertaining to the examination process will be emailed to those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications.
SELECTION PROCESS
Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on an unranked eligibility list for a period of six (6) months and referred to the hiring authority.
