Student Services Professional II Position Details Emergency Hire- Temporary position lasting at most 90 days with an option of being extended to 120 days.
This generally requires:
planning; both interviewing and counseling techniques; judgment to recommend solutions to problems and changes in program procedures; and/or acting as spokesperson within the area of expertise. This role requires use of sound independent judgment while dealing with moderately complex student service problems. It demands the utilization of effective interpersonal skills with both individuals and groups, to be flexible and versatile, to use tact and sensitivity and to effective analytical skills in assisting with the preparation of documentation, mandatory reporting and program assessment. The purpose of this work is to assist students in making successful progress toward their degree objectives; to provide learning experiences which supplement those in the classroom; and to assist and encourage students to utilize effectively the knowledge, skills and abilities learned during their university careers. Student Organizations & Leadership (SO&L) advocates for students and contributes to learning, development, and retention by providing opportunities for involvement, leadership, and empowerment through a wide variety of organizations and programs. These experiences nurture campus pride and student success to advance an inclusive and equitable community. The Program Advisor, Leadership provides direct support to students participating in departmental leadership programming and student organizations. The Program Advisor plays a role in providing students with a high-quality intentional leadership development experience. As a part of the Leadership team, the Program Advisor supports the coordination and implementation of programming activities of the Leadership Conferences, student organization officer trainings and on-going leadership development opportunities. In addition, the Program Advisor contributes to the development and execution of intentional student involvement and engagement programs, activities and events and will also advise student-led clubs and organizations.FLSA:
Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation)CSU Classification Salary Range:
$5,083 per month- $7,228 per month
Hiring Range/Rate:
$29.32 per hour. $5,083 per month. Anticipated hire is at the minimum of the classification salary range.Salary Grade/Range:

Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m.
- 5:00 p.m. Summer Hours (May
- August) will be 7:30am
- 4:00pm with a 30 minute lunch.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas. Possession of these knowledge and abilities typically is demonstrated through the Experience requirements below.Experience:
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis. Required Qualifications Experience Higher education student services experience related to the assigned program area (e.g., advising, admissions, residential life, student programming or development) Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to independently prioritize, plan and organize work in a fast-paced environment Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide direct programs and/or services to a diverse student population. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment Ability to compile, prepare, write and review reports Proficiency using standard office software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) Familiarity working with school-based record/data systems/software (example: PeopleSoft) Ability to understand, interpret and moderately complex rules, regulations and procedures Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community Condition of Employment- Satisfactory completion of the background check process.
