Job Description

Whittier College is an independent, four-year Liberal Arts College distinguished by its small size (1600 undergraduates) and a nationally recognized liberal arts program. Whittier College has a history of strong and innovative interdisciplinary programs and a diverse student body. The College is ideally situated in the scenic hills eighteen miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Assistant Director for Academic Success The Center for Advising and Academic Success office at Whittier College is seeking an Assistant Director. The Assistant Director of Academic Support serves as an academic advising and counseling position for incoming first-year and transfer students. They support students on academic probation, academic warning, and other students seeking support for their academic pursuits at the College. The Assistant Director serves as an essential member of the academic support team by working to provide students with the skills and tools needed to be successful in their coursework.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions of the job: 1. Program Support Under the guidance of the Directors and Dean, provide academic counseling for students, create educational contracts, and track progress. Provides support in identifying critical issues that impact academic preparedness and persistence with specific attention to transfer students, first generation college students, student-athletes and students at all levels of academic warning. Assesses the Academic Success Program, in consultation with the Directors, Dean, and Institutional Effectiveness. Coordinates and facilitates at least 2 academic success workshops per semester in collaboration with CAAS student intern(s) Collaborates with the Quantitative Success Center, Writing Center, and Student Accessibility Services to provide holistic support for students Participates as a member of the CARE team to provide academic support and makes additional referrals for students in need Collaborates with athletic Student Success and Compliance Coordinator on at least 1 Poet Student-Athlete Leadership Academy event per semester Create an action plan for implementing appropriate academic learning assistance programs. Supports the Center in the administration of New Student Registration for fall and spring semesters. This includes advisement and registering new students, training student peer advisors, working with parents, Student Life, Registrar's Office, Admissions, Business and Financial Aid departments. Support the compilation of data and production of semester program assessment reports. Assist the Director with Fall and Spring new student registration logistics, scheduling faculty advising appointments and Parent Track coordination. Support the planning and facilitation of First-Year Programs Poet 101 course in the Fall and Spring Semesters in collaboration with faculty and Whittier Works Provide logistical support for all events and programs. Maintain confidentiality in alignment with institutional practices, including FERPA and HIPA. Oversees the department email and supplies general office support, as needed. Evening and weekend hours may be assigned to support the Center and student-athlete needs. 2.
Marketing:
Assist the Dean and Director by maintaining the CAAS webpage, social media, Student Life designated platforms, Moodle, etc. by preparing marketing and other promotions for the Center's activities and services Assist the Dean and Director with updating the marketing materials and purchasing with on and off campus vendors. Evening and weekend hours may be assigned to support the Center. 3.
Office Management:
Provide general office and administrative support for the Center Ensures the department is properly staffed by student managers during the Center's workday, evening, and weekend hours, be they virtual or in person offerings. Direct students, faculty, staff, and the public to the appropriate person, program, or office. Assists with scheduling appointments for the Dean, Directors, and departmental staff. Arrange for facilities work requests, repairs, and servicing equipment/facility for CAAS department. Other duties as assigned. Non-essential Functions of the

Position Specifications and Requirements:
Master's degree in counseling, student affairs or other related major required. 1-2 years of experience in higher education program administration. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the needs and experiences of diverse student populations. Knowledge of high impact practices including first-year experience courses and experiential learning. Experience in presentation of workshops or public speaking. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently as a leader and as part of a team.
