SUMMARY:
The Assistant Athletic/Activities Director works in partnership with the Athletic/Activities Director to maintain, organize, and administer the overall program of interscholastic athletics at the high school level. The Assistant Athletic/Activities Director manages those interscholastic head coaches, assistant coaches, and junior varsity and C level coaches in the Athletic/Activities department as assigned by the Athletic/Activities Director. The Assistant Athletic/Activities Director shares responsibility for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit. Shared responsibilities include interviewing, recommending for hire and training coaches; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; updating the DHS Athletic/Activities website, rewarding and disciplining coaches; addressing complaints; creating and modifying schedules, and resolving problems. This position does include work on Saturdays and traveling for events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Contract management for scheduled athletic/activities events via online platform. Facility scheduling for athletic/activity teams and community groups. Communicating with coaches, athletic/activities administrators, officials' assignment chairpersons and officials about any changes to the athletic/activities schedule. Working in conjunction with the athletic/activities department staff regarding the scheduling of contest staff and other workers (e.g., announcers, scorekeepers, clock operators). Working in conjunction with the athletic/activities department staff scheduling training for contest staff and workers. Developing, maintaining and updating the athletic/activities website, including athletic/activities schedules, in conjunction with head coaches, the Athletic/Activities Department Administrative Assistant, and the Athletic/Activities Director. Assisting with developing the agenda for monthly head coaches' meetings; attending head coaches' meetings. Developing communications and/or correspondence (e.g., letters, tournament invites, tournament brackets and information, etc.) with the Athletic/Activities Director and athletic/activities department staff. Scheduling and coordinating athletic/activities teams and individual pictures at the beginning of each sport/activity season in conjunction with the Athletic/Activities Department Administrative Assistant. Scheduling and coordinating seasonal athletic/activities department events as directed by the Athletic/Activities Director. Obtaining any applications, licenses, permits and/or other documentation associated with scheduling an athletic/activities event on properties outside District 9R facilities. Assisting the Athletic/Activities Director in the professional development, supervision and evaluation of the athletic/activities coaching staff. Planning, supervising and managing athletic/activities events as assigned by the Athletic/Activities Director or Building Principal. Executing any other duties or assignments as directed by the Athletic/Activities Director or Building Principal. Assist with coordinating with appropriate transportation providers for team travel to-and-from games/competitions and practices, as well as planning and coordinating trip itineraries as required. Coordinate with school staff and coaches the setup of facilities for all activities. Coordinate the use of all school facilities by groups outside the school under the direction of the Athletic/Activities Director and Business Office. Work with and oversee DHS Athletics/Activities and CTSOs including budget, travel scheduling, fundraising requests, staffing, and eligibility. Enforce and support all CHSAA related by-laws to ensure good standing for the high school. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
BA Degree; degree in athletic administration preferred. Hold a Colorado Principal or Administrator License or be in the process of obtaining, preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Current or past experience as a head coach or an assistant coach of a high school varsity athletic program required. Past experience as an athletic administrator is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS
CPR and First Aid training preferred at hire; required within one month of hire. Valid driver's license that permits the operation of vehicles registered in Colorado required.

Oral and written communication skills Interpersonal relations skills Personal computer and keyboarding skills Must be able to solve practical problems with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals Must be able to multitask and meet deadlines with severe time constraints Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry The Assistant Athletic Director is directly responsible for safety, well-being and work output of students and coaches Must be able to work irregular or extended work hours Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors Critical thinking and problem-solving skills Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies and building/department procedures Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively in a team setting Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE
Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals. Operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office, email/calendar systems, financial software, publishing software. Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, E-mail, etc. Ability to learn and work in a variety of databases. Knowledgeable about athletic scheduling, using scheduling software and the development and maintenance of websites.
