Elementary Education Certification Connecticut Teaching Certification. 092 General Scope of Function The New Milford Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified educational leader to serve as a full-time Elementary School Assistant Principal. The Assistant Principal works in close partnership with and in support of the Principal to ensure the effective operation of the school and the implementation of high-quality instructional practices. The successful candidate will possess strong knowledge of elementary education and demonstrate exceptional organizational and leadership skills. Responsibilities include supporting school operations and instructional programming, including scheduling, budgeting, and the implementation of effective elementary instructional practices and curriculum. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a strong understanding of the Science of Reading and a commitment to strengthening literacy outcomes for all students. Guided by the district's core ideals: Focus, Heart, Collaboration, and Creativity, the Assistant Principal helps advance a school culture that supports improved outcomes and expanded opportunities for all students. Through collaboration with staff, students, and families, the Assistant Principal contributes to the district's mission and foundational frameworks, including the Portrait of a Lifelong Learner and the Instructional Keystones, ensuring these guiding principles are reflected in daily practice and decision-making. Preferred Qualifications Qualifications and Skills The successful candidate will be a thoughtful, experienced educator who demonstrates the following qualities and qualifications: A strong personal commitment to public education and to improving outcomes and opportunities for all students. Demonstrated knowledge of elementary education, child growth and development, and developmentally appropriate instructional practices. A deep understanding of evidence-based literacy instruction, including the Science of Reading. The ability to support and evaluate instructional programs, using data and collaboration to improve teaching and learning. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support, and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and families in alignment with the district's ideals of Focus, Heart, Collaboration, and Creativity. The ability to resolve conflicts thoughtfully through flexibility, sound judgment, and professionalism. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to build positive relationships with all members of the school community. An appreciation for and commitment to meeting the needs of diverse learners, including students requiring specialized educational services. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to plan, manage, and successfully implement complex school initiatives and operations. Connecticut certification (or certifiable) as an Administrator (092). A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level, with demonstrated effectiveness in instructional leadership, supervision, or administrative responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant Principal reports to and supports the Principal in the overall leadership, management, and daily operations of the school. In alignment with the district's ideals of Focus, Heart, Collaboration, and Creativity, the Assistant Principal works collaboratively with staff, students, and families to improve outcomes and expand opportunities for all learners.Essential responsibilities include:
Assist the Principal in the leadership and management of the school's instructional program, ensuring alignment with district priorities, the Portrait of a Lifelong Learner, and the Instructional Keystones. Support, supervise, and evaluate assigned certified and non-certified staff, and promote continuous improvement through coaching, feedback, and professional learning opportunities. Collaborate with teachers and instructional staff to strengthen effective elementary instructional practices, including the implementation of evidence-based literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading. Assist in the development and implementation of the school's master schedule and coordinate school-wide programs and activities. Support the development and monitoring of the school budget and assist in the responsible management of financial resources. Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive school climate by supporting effective student discipline practices with restorative approaches through clear communication with students, staff, and families. Foster strong partnerships with families and the broader community to support student learning and well-being. Assist the Principal with general school operations, problem-solving, and leadership initiatives that support the effective functioning of the school. Engage in diverse leadership opportunities and administrative responsibilities as requested by the Principal to ensure the smooth operation of the school Additional Duties and Responsibilities The person in this position will be responsible for any additional duties and/ or responsibilities as assigned or required by the building principal.Physical Activity:
The position will require infrequent lifting, pulling, or pushing during the normal performance of the tasks and responsibilities. Work may require frequent walking and standing.Work Environment:
