Summary:
The Disability Access Advisor determines reasonable disability-related accommodations to the full range of students with disabilities accessing the Academic Support and Access Center's (ASAC) services. This position is responsible for independently engaging in the deliberative process necessary for determining reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and working with faculty and staff to implement student's approved academic/residential adjustments, reasonable accommodations, and access to auxiliary aids and services. This process includes the review of clinical documentation submitted in support of a student's request. As a member of the documentation review team, the Disability Access Advisor consults on complex cases and stays abreast of current issues related to disability support. The Disability Access Advisor conducts disability support workshops, provides disability-related academic support , and consults with members of the campus community on disability and academic support related topics. The Disability Access Advisor assists with academic intervention programs, particularly during the summer. This position works collaboratively under limited supervision.Essential Functions:
1.) Direct Student Service Directly responsible for determining reasonable accommodations for students with accommodation requests. Reviews clinical documentation and meets individually with students with disabilities engaging in the deliberative process necessary to make reasonable accommodations decisions. Provides specialized support for students with disabilities, including individual consulting to address the impact of the disability on academic performance and assistance with accessing accommodations. Provides disability-related academic support to ASAC students and coordinates/collaborates with ASAC colleagues and campus partners to ensure full access to all aspects of the student experience. Makes appropriate referrals. Conducts disability support workshops. Serves in the disability drop-ins rotation. 2.) Outreach and Consultation Provides consultation and professional development for ASAC staff on topics of expertise. Consults on student issues and disabilities with faculty, academic advisors, other campus colleagues, and families/guardians. Disseminates information on disability-related topics and ASAC services. Participates in office and university events; creates publicity in collaboration with Coordinator, Administration & Technology Operations. 3.) Administration and Personnel Maintains case notes using case management system. Communicates accommodation request decisions to students and when appropriate coordinates with campus partners with regards to accommodation implementation. Collaborates with ASAC staff and other campus units on programming and service enhancements related to specific student populations. Engages in professional development activities to expand skillset and knowledge of designated populations; serves on university committees, as appropriate. Collects and evaluates data. 4.) Full-time. 35 hours per week.Salary Range:
$53,000.00- $58,000.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree or equivalent in education, student development, counseling, related field. 2- 4 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Higher education experience. Familiarity with the developmental issues of college students. Experience working with disabilities and the accommodation process, including relevant disability laws. Experience working with a diverse student population. Experiencing providing academic support services. Experience advocating for student populations.
