  • 2027 School Year About JTC Academy JTC Academy is a Special Education Therapeutic Day School dedicated to providing a structured, supportive, and academically rigorous environment for students with mental and behavioral health challenges.
Our mission is to ensure every student receives individualized support to achieve success and personal growth in both academic and therapeutic settings . Position Summary The Principal serves as the head of JTC Academy's administrative team, overseeing academic programs, staff development, student behavior management, and operational compliance . This role requires a strong leader who can maintain a safe, structured, and high-expectation environment for both students and staff. The Principal is responsible for ensuring compliance with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) regulations , special education laws , and JTC Academy policies . Supervises Teachers & Teacher Assistants Kitchen, Maintenance, and Janitorial Staff Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Leadership Maintain a consistent visual presence throughout the school, especially during unstructured times. Lead and evaluate instructional programs , ensuring alignment with state-mandated curriculum and IEP goals . Oversee student discipline , ensuring adherence to behavioral intervention strategies and positive behavior supports (PBIS) . Implement and enforce all school policies and procedures to maintain the mission and requirements of JTC Academy. Ensure proper IEP implementation for students and support teachers in individualizing instruction . Collaborate with school leadership teams to develop and refine the Campus Improvement Plan . Organize staff training sessions , ensuring compliance with Illinois school regulations regarding teacher certification and behavioral intervention strategies . Oversee state-mandated assessments , ensuring compliance with Section 401.145 of the Illinois Administrative Code . Staff Supervision & Development Lead interviewing, hiring, and evaluation of staff members. Conduct formal and informal observations of all instructional and support staff. Train staff in evidence-based teaching and classroom management techniques , including PBIS and trauma-informed approaches . Oversee and document staff professional development plans , ensuring compliance with Illinois school certification requirements . Compliance & Safety Ensure compliance with Illinois education laws, ISBE regulations, and special education mandates . Maintain accurate records of staff training, student behavior incidents, and compliance documents . Ensure adherence to Section 401.250 Staff Training and 401.260 Staff Records , ensuring all staff meet licensing, background check, and certification requirements. Supervise search line procedures in the morning and afternoon to monitor student compliance with school policies. Implement and oversee crisis intervention procedures , ensuring staff are properly trained in therapeutic restraints and de-escalation techniques . Supervise the National Free Lunch Program , ensuring compliance with federal guidelines. Student Support & Behavioral Management Enforce JTC Academy's motto: "High Expectations for All Students" . Monitor student behavior, attendance, and academic progress to ensure success. Work with staff, students, and parents to resolve conflicts and improve student outcomes. Supervise and document student behavioral interventions , ensuring due process and IEP compliance . Oversee student referrals, suspensions, and discipline records . School Operations & Resource Management Coordinate and supervise the development of the master schedule for teachers, students, and staff. Oversee building safety protocols , including fire, tornado, intruder, and active shooter drills , per ISBE requirements . Manage facility maintenance , ensuring a clean, safe, and organized school environment . Oversee technology integration , ensuring staff proficiency in Renweb, Smart Boards, iPads, Chrome Books, and other digital tools . Community & Public Relations Serve as a liaison between JTC Academy, local school districts, parents, and community organizations . Represent JTC Academy at professional conferences and educational organizations , including Illinois Alliance of Special Education (IAASE) . Communicate regular updates to staff and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and collaboration. Required Qualifications Master's Degree in Educational Administration or related field. Illinois Type 75 Administrative License or Special Education Director License K-12. Licensed Special Education Teacher with at least 5 years of successful special education teaching experience. Extensive knowledge of special education laws, IEP processes, and behavioral intervention strategies. Experience in staff supervision, compliance management, and curriculum development. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and crisis management skills. Preferred Qualifications PBIS Training and experience implementing positive behavior supports . Experience working in a therapeutic day school setting . Training in restorative justice, behavioral de-escalation, and trauma-informed teaching practices . JTC Academy Requirements FBI and State Background Check Drug Screening Sex Offender Registry Check Verification of College Degree and Licensure Completion of JTC Academy's Technology Competency Test for Administrators Working Conditions & Associated Risks The school serves students with mental health and behavioral challenges , requiring physical stamina, crisis management skills, and emotional resilience . Risk of injury exists due to student outbursts, interventions, or crisis situations . Frequent bending, standing, kneeling, and walking required . Ability to lift up to 25 lbs may be required. Terms of Employment Full-time position following the instructional administrative schedule . Required to arrive 45 minutes before staff and stay 45 minutes after staff departure .
