Job Description
The NISEC Executive Director is responsible for all the total operations of the Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative and the provision of specialized services for students with disabilities. The Director must be able to perform essential job functions and satisfactorily demonstrate the competencies for Administrative Staff. Specifically, the Director is responsible for the following: Communication with the Board of Managers and the Superintendents of member districts Supervision of certified personnel Oversight of legal issues Compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations Public relations Consultation and services for nonpublic schools Requirements for
Director Candidates:
Minimum of Master's Degree in Special Education and/or Education Administration. Minimum of ten years' experience in providing Special Education services Demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and the ability to make decisions that serve the best interest of the member districts and students with disabilities. Possess an expert knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations and skills to develop appropriate procedures for certified staff to follow. Preferred experience/requirements forDirector Candidates:
Hold and maintain current licensure as a Director of Special Education in the State of Indiana. Administrative experience in a Cooperative or Multi-District Agency, Demonstrated leadership and management responsibilities, Ability to collaborate, cooperate and negotiate with multiple County, State and Federal agencies, Experience in supervision of administrative and certified staff to assure personnel issues are addressed in a supportive professional manner, Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people, Effective communication skills in writing, speaking and listening, and Ability to develop a vision and mission with the Board, Superintendents and Administrators to assure the viability of the Cooperative for the future.
