POSITION SUMMARY
The Success Coach is a member of the Academic Success team, with a mission to support student success and achievement. This position plays a pivotal role in guiding and supporting students in their transition to college. The Success Coach will collaborate with faculty advisors and other university student success professionals to provide inclusive and accessible guidance to our diverse student population. They will focus primarily on serving first-year students in creating a welcoming environment that nurtures student growth and success while embodying strong communication, cultural humility, and a commitment to belonging and connection. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and a self-starter with excellent communication skills. The position is a 10-month contract (.83 FTE) and the pay for this position is $22.56/hour.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
) Assist a diverse student population with the transition to college Assist with onboarding new students to their college experience. Review academic interests with new students and explain the Core and academic major requirements in relation to the student's academic schedule. Serve as an active member of the orientation team to support initiatives and serve as a go-to person for students in their transition to college. Assist students in the navigation of the various educational technology tools used across campus. Communicate student support initiatives early in the college experience to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement on campus. Serve as the primary point of contact for students, utilizing a holistic advising approach to support them, particularly in the first year, within an assigned caseload . Serves as instructor for DCS 110, Academic Success course. Conducts personalized outreach to identify academic and socio-emotional challenges. Guides students in crafting a student success plan. Recommends opportunities for personal and academic growth, as well as co-curricular activities that align with individual interests. Maintains an in-depth understanding of university policies and procedures, disseminating information to students. Encourages access to campus resources and connections to professors. Encourages participation in high-impact activities and known initiatives that impact student persistence. Emphasizes confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions. Acts as an advocate and problem solver in areas that benefit the student experience. Additional projects and support, as appropriate Assists with front desk coverage and test proctoring. Collaborates with the Academic Success team to make data-informed decisions on overall retention efforts with first-year students. Participates in campus initiatives, such as affinity groups, first-generation, or 21st-century scholar programming, or co-curricular events. Partners with Career Networks for career development.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree in education, social work, or a related field is required.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Required:
Experience working with college students, individually and in groups, particularly within the context of success coaching Willingness to learn new things and desire to problem-solve and find solutions Good communicator with good organizational skills Strong time management and prioritization skills, balancing tasks and caseload responsibilities efficiently Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrated time management and priority-setting skills Demonstrated customer service skills Commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds and demonstrated cultural competency Ability to maintain records for grant management and documentation Ability to maintain confidentiality Proficiency with Google Workspace and Excel spreadsheets
Preferred:
Knowledge of advising techniques and academic curriculum Bilingual and bicultural Experience with program databases or software programs used to track, monitor, and report services to students
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed for orientation events a few times a year.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift light loads (up to 25 pounds) Prolonged sitting and use of keyboard Ability to complete primary tasks by viewing computer screen(s) for the majority of any given workday (extensive use of computer technology) Considerable phone use and operation of copier and other standard office equipment
