Education Required Level:
Master's Degree General Purpose The Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of Michigan City High School and is responsible for advancing student achievement, cultivating a positive and inclusive school culture, and leading staff in the continuous improvement of teaching and learning. The Principal works collaboratively with students, families, staff, and the community to ensure all students graduate prepared for college, career, and life. Michigan City Area Schools seeks a visionary and student-centered leader who will build upon the strong work of current faculty and administration while advancing the district's strategic priorities. Essential Functions of the
Position:
Instructional Leadership Provide strong instructional leadership to improve teaching and learning across all departments. Utilize multiple sources of data to guide instructional decisions and monitor student progress. Lead curriculum implementation and instructional improvement efforts aligned with district and state standards. Support professional learning communities and collaborative instructional practices. School Culture and Climate Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for students and staff. Promote and model cultural competence, equity, and respect through leadership practices and professional learning. Build a culture of trust, accountability, and high expectations. Staff Leadership and Development Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality staff. Supervise and evaluate instructional and support staff in accordance with district procedures. Facilitate meaningful professional development aligned with school goals. Build a strong leadership team and support distributed leadership among staff. Student and Family Engagement Develop and maintain strong relationships with students and families. Promote active communication and partnership with parents and guardians. Foster positive connections between the school and the broader Michigan City community. Operations and Management Oversee daily school operations, including safety, scheduling, discipline, and building management. Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and reporting requirements. Supervise the maintenance of accurate school records and documentation. Collaborate with central office departments on transportation, special services, and other operational needs. Strategic Leadership Lead the school in setting and achieving strategic goals aligned with district priorities. Identify strengths and opportunities for improvement and implement systems to support progress. Manage school resources effectively to support student success. Education and Experience Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution Valid Indiana Principal license or eligibility for licensure Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience preferred Demonstrated leadership experience at the building or district level preferred Evidence of improving student outcomes and leading school improvement initiatives Salary and Benefits Salary commensurate with experience
