Middle School Head Drama Sponsor Job Description Purpose :
Lead in the production of a student dramatic/musical production and to follow the policies and procedures of Derby Public Schools. Responsible to :
Building Principal/Activities Leader Salary :
Per Annual Supplemental Contract Classification of Employment :
Exempt (if Certified)
Qualifications :
1. Have fundamental knowledge of the activity. 2. Possess all certificates required for the State of Kansas. 3. Ability to select from a variety of instruction methods.
Essential Functions:
1. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities a. Select a play for production with the approval of the Building Principal. b. See that all copyright and royalty agreements are completed. c. Run auditions and select the cast and crew. d. Develop a rehearsal schedule and keep rehearsal periods reasonable and within school policies. e. Prepare costume designs, set designs, etc., with the aid of the assistant Directors. f. Supervise the play production areas such as: costumes, lighting, props, publicity, rehearsal, etc., with the aid of Assistant Director. g. Make arrangements for borrowing props, furniture, costumes, etc., with the aid of the Assistant Director. h. Supervise the expenditure and collection of all monies. i. Supervise Assistant, if assigned, and delineate duties and responsibilities. j. Develop a recommended budget for next year. k. Keep an accurate inventory of all materials and supplies. l. Recommend facility maintenance or improvements. m. Assume responsibility for the general upkeep and protection of equipment and materials associated with the activity while actually using a facility. n. Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding the progress and development of the program. o. Prepare with Assistant a detailed annual report highlighting the activity accomplishments, participation levels and recommendations for improvement of the activity. 2. Physical Requirements/ Environmental Conditions a. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push objects over 50 lbs. b. Be able to sit on a bus for extended periods of time. c. Be able to assist an injured participant. d. Be able to be heard from distances necessary for the job. e. Ability to stand for extended periods of time. f. Ability to work steady for extended periods of time. g. Ability to work in hostile and emotional atmospheres. h. Occupationally exposed to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials based on task and procedures required. i. Tolerate temperature and weather fluctuations. j. Tolerate high levels of noise and/or music. k. Tolerate high levels of stress.
General Responsibilities:
1. Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. 2. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques. 3. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements of the various governmental agencies. 4. Adhere to all district health and safety policies. 5. Perform all duties required by state and federal statutes and by Board of Education policy and action. 6. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal and Activities Leader or other appropriate administrator.
