Aug 24, 2026 Job Description Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Student Services and in collaboration with the building administrators, the Special Education Administrator will support and supervise special education intensive needs programs from kindergarten through age 21 for the Amherst and Amherst-Pelham Regional Public Schools. ARPS specialized intensive needs programs are for students who present with highly complicated learning profiles and educational needs that require a significant degree of program coordination and service. Students in these programs may have one or more disabilities in any of the following areas: Autism, Communication Impairment, Developmental Delay, Health Impairment, Intellectual Impairment, Neurological Impairment, Physical Impairment, Sensory Impairment, and / or Specific Learning Disabilities. These programs (Intensive Learning Center K-6; Essential Skills Program 7th & 8th; Pathways to Independence / Connections 9th through age 21) provide support and services to students with significant needs within the least restrictive setting while focusing on the individual needs of the students. Under the direction of the Director of Student Services and in collaboration with district and building leaders support the district vision including systemic change, in partnership with stakeholders, that is focused on the equitable access, participation and benefit for students with disabilities; this includes the provision of evidenced based curriculum, instructional practices and intervention programs to meet the unique academic, social, emotional, behavioral, adaptive living, vocational and transition needs of a diverse student population. The Intensive Needs Administrator responsibilities include but are not limited to: Lead program development, enhancements, and implementation; provide intensive needs programmatic oversight at the elementary and secondary levels. Ensure compliance with state and federal special education laws and regulations for students with disabilities to ensure students receive a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment. Provide clear and consistent high expectations for students and accountability guided by an inclusive philosophy. Monitor the implementation of special education services including the use of data to evaluate the efficacy of special education programs and services. Supervise and evaluate identified APEA unit special education staff and paraeducators. Maintain highly effective communication skills, able to develop and enhance professional partnerships, and utilizes a collaborative problem solving approach that is student centered. Chair IEP Team meetings at all levels and write/support the writing of IEPs and documentation Work collaboratively with families, advocates, agencies and staff to support the delivery of meaningful educational services. Monitor staffing patterns and attendance; provide support with assignments/reassignments on a routine basis to ensure student safety and compliance with IEPs. Oversee specialized transportation for vans and monitors including the provision of training, identification and support, and daily management of assignments and coverage Lead and organize Extended School Year (ESY) services at all levels in conjunctions with the Student Services Administrator. This position is covered by the Amherst Pelham Administrators Association (APAA) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This is a full time, full year position.The salary range is:
